BYU lands Kahuku’s Latu; Utah gets Anae

Kahuku senior linebacker Hirkley Latu signed with Brigham Young on Wednesday. Latu had offers from California, Hawaii, Washington State, Oregon State, Utah and Utah State. Latu was one of eight Kahuku defensive players selected to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser all-state first team in December. Kahuku went 13-0 and won the state title. Kahuku defensive lineman Bradlee Anae signed with Utah, picking the Utes over Oregon State, BYU, Vanderbilt and Virginia.

USC lands Malepeai in signing day shocker

Mililani senior running back Vavae Malepeai had been committed to Oregon for nearly a year. And now he’s going to USC. The state’s all-time leading rusher made a last-minute switch, signing with USC at the PIAA event at Sheraton Waikiki on Wednesday morning after being committed to Oregon since last summer. Kamehameha’s Noa says he’s going to Hawaii

The top two wide receivers in the state this past season are staying home for college. Kamehameha’s Kumoku Noa announced on Twitter on Monday night that he will stay home and play for Hawaii, joining Mililani’s Kalakaua Timoteo at UH. Both receivers were named to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser all-state first team in December and were the top two in the state in receiving yardage. Kamehameha’s Kapoi to sign with Navy

Kamehameha’s Alema Kapoi was leaning toward committing to Navy when visits to West Point and the Air Force suddenly opened his recruitment up. Over the weekend, Navy closed the door on it. Kapoi gave his commitment to the Midshipmen coaching staff Sunday after finishing his official visit. Kahuku football head coach Vavae Tata is bringing his team to Las Vegas next season to play Bishop Gorman, USA Today’s No. 1 team from 2015.
