By Nick Abramo on April 11, 2016

Lots of high school football players choose to not play football in college. Some just don’t want to. Others don’t think they can. Others don’t know where to begin to look for a small college that might want them to play. Well, one possibility for those on the fence is taking a look at Occidental in Los Angeles or Pacific University in Forest Grove, Ore. For sure, it’s not a lock that solid high school football players who aren’t big-college […]

Punahou sparkles in comeback Clash

By Nick Abramo on April 10, 2016

Defeat was all but certain, yet Punahou found a way to come back and beat Mira Costa on Saturday in the Clash of the Titans boys volleyball tournament. As a result, the Buffanblu took a 5-4 lead against the Mustangs in the nine years the tournament has been held since 2008. When Jackson Wedbush thundered a kill for Mira Costa’s 25-20 third-set victory for a 2-1 match lead, the logical conclusion to those who don’t have a stake in it […]

Kamehameha-Hawaii takes aim again

By Nick Abramo on April 9, 2016

Kamehameha-Hawaii’s boys volleyball team didn’t play against Punahou this weekend in the Clash of the Titans tournament. Ahhhh … but they did go to Punahou, where the tournament is held and got a close-hand look at the team that has been standing in the way of a state championship for a long, long time now. Kamehameha-Hawaii is, once again, taking aim at the top in Hawaii, but that climb to the mountain goes through the Buffanblu, just about no matter […]

By Nick Abramo on April 8, 2016

It was just another Oahu Interscholastic Association West baseball game. Undefeated Pearl City visited Waipahu on Wednesday. The Chargers improved to 10-0 with a 16-7 win after breaking a 6-6 tie with six runs in the sixth, and the Marauders fell more toward the bottom of the standings at 2-7. Both shortstops, however, combined to bat 1.000 at the plate. Let’s start with Waipahu senior Kobie Russell, who was offered and committed to the University of Hawaii when he was […]

Kaiser gets chippy in win over Kalani

By Paul Honda on April 8, 2016

There are rivalries that take on a semi-friendly tone. This one was far from it. When Kalani visited Kaiser on Friday afternoon for an OIA East baseball game, both the visiting Falcons and the home plate umpire were targets of verbal abuse from Kaiser players and at least one Kaiser supporter in the audience. It was an exceedingly feisty effort by the Cougars, who won 5-4 in an upset of the fifth-ranked Falcons. Three Cougars were tossed from the game, […]

By Jerry Campany on April 8, 2016

Kamehameha senior wrestler Teshya Alo has made weight and drawn her first opponent for the U.S. Olympic Trials at Iowa City, Iowa. Alo, who earned her fourth straight state title earlier this year, is the second seed and drew Megan Black as her first opponent. Black is a sophomore at McKendree University and will be wrestling up a weight class. The three-time Fargo All-American is from Iowa so she should have a sizable following. According to an article in thepredicament.com, […]
