Abu Maafala is the new football head coach at Kamehameha, according to trusted Honolulu Star-Advertiser and Hawaii Prep World sources. Maafala will be officially announced as the new coach by the school this week, according to the sources. On Friday, Hawaii Prep World tried but could not get confirmation of Maafala’s hiring from the Kamehameha athletic department. ‘Iolani will play D-I football again in 2016

‘Iolani will play Division I football in 2016, head coach Wendell Look told Hawaii Prep World on Saturday. Look said he and the team met in February and that’s when the players voted to remain in Division I for a second straight season. Konawaena’s Chanelle Molina, the multi-sport star who is headed to Washington State to play basketball next season, was named to the CBS MaxPreps Girls All-America fifth team Wednesday. Molina comes from a long line of Wildcats stars who have made a statewide impact and beyond. That list also includes Lia Galdeira, who was drafted by the Washington Mystics of the WNBA on Thursday after a stellar career with the WSU Cougars. It’s been quite a ride for Lia Galdeira, and the spotlight just turned a bit brighter. The former Star-Advertiser Girls Basketball All-State Player of the Year from Konawaena was drafted by the WNBA’s Washington Mystics on Thursday. Galdeira is the first high school player from Hawaii to be drafted by the pro league.
