Kahuku’s Alapa hurt against Bishop Gorman

Kahuku’s Stennett Alapa, an offensive lineman, hurt his arm in Saturday’s 35-7 loss to Bishop Gorman on Saturday. He is expected to miss the rest of the season, Hawaii Prep World sources said. Alapa, a senior, was an integral part of the Red Raiders’ O-line. Calls to Red Raiders head coach Vavae Tata for comment were not returned. OIA will take part in new state football format

The Oahu Interscholastic Association will be participating in the new state football format this fall, according to a release sent to the league’s member schools by executive director Ray Fujino on Tuesday night. In the short release, the league announced its support of the tournament for this year and this year only. The league will discuss the merits of the concept and make recommendations after the season. Farrington running back Challen Faamatau was featured in today’s print edition of the Honolulu Star-Advertiser. Wednesday’s Honolulu Star-Advertiser will include a Hawaii Grown section listing all 56 Division I girls volleyball players from Hawaii high schools currently playing on the mainland. Missouri’s Carly Kan, a four-year starter for the Tigers, is profiled. Kan played for a team that went 35-1 in her freshman season and is currently 9-3 heading into the start of SEC play on Wednesday night hosting South Carolina.
