Kahuku’s Stennett Alapa, an offensive lineman, hurt his arm in Saturday’s 35-7 loss to Bishop Gorman on Saturday.
He is expected to miss the rest of the season, Hawaii Prep World sources said.
Alapa, a senior, was an integral part of the Red Raiders’ O-line.
Calls to Red Raiders head coach Vavae Tata for comment were not returned.
Kahuku was on an 18-game winning streak until the loss to the Gaels (4-0), the top-ranked team in the nation. Kahuku, ranked 17th in the USA Today Xcellent 25 at the time of the game, is now No. 24.
It was Tata’s first loss as Kahuku’s head coach. His first 13 wins came last season en route to the Division I state championship. The Red Raiders (5-1 5-0 Oahu Interscholastic Association Blue) have not lost a game to a Hawaii team since his arrival.
Kahuku, the top-ranked team in Hawaii, finishes its regular season with two away games — at Moanalua (3-3, 2-3) on Saturday and at Kaiser (2-5, 1-5) on Sept. 30.
Healing prayers goes out for Stennett Alapa. Hope for a healthy season for all players of this very physical sport.
Rest and heal well Stennett.
Never good to see anyone get hurt. Best wishes to this young man.
Sorry Stennett.
But I know your family and your namesake so I know you will come back even better.
God speed and heal quickly.
Alapa is a beast. Sucks to lose him. Especially to a cheap shot during the Gorman game. Main thing he heals up properly and stays on top of his school work for the next level!
I didn’t see the play. What happened, Homegrown?
Big loss. Prayers for the kid.
Sending out prayers.
RRFL!
