By Nick Abramo on October 13, 2016

Jr. Prep Sports football has created quite a pipeline of players to varsity football in Hawaii and the mainland. There are 16 different organizations in Hawaii playing tackle and flag football under the Jr. Prep Sports banner. One of those organizations — the Ewa Beach Sabers – provided Hawaii Prep World with a list of its alumni who are now playing or have played varsity football in the past. The list of those players will follow, but first here is a list […]

Schutte’s specialty and Masaki’s moxie

By Nick Abramo on October 13, 2016

Syenna Masaki is the unquestioned leader of the Kalaheo Mustangs in girls volleyball. Keisha Schutte is a well-rounded player for the Campbell Sabers. There were others who also shined during the Mustangs’ three-set victory over the Sabers in the first round of the Oahu Interscholastic Association playoffs on Wednesday night at the Aiea High gym, but those two stood out for different reasons. Masaki is easy to spot. She is vocal and she is a big hitter. When setter Riley […]

Leilehua-Kahuku rematch is a bonus for Mules

By Nick Abramo on October 13, 2016

No. 1 Kahuku is a big favorite to beat unranked Leilehua in the Oahu Interscholastic Association quarterfinals Friday night. But the best part about it for the Mules (4-5) is they have a lot to gain even if they lose. They have already qualified for next month’s state tournament, so what better way to go into the quarterfinals than against the top-ranked team in the state? >> A victory would be a mammoth upset. >> A loss? Well, that’s what […]

Aiea’s Say aims for players to meet their potential

By Nick Abramo on October 12, 2016

You couldn’t help but notice a twinge of disappointment in the eyes of Wendell Say after a first-round Oahu Interscholastic Association football first-round playoff loss last weekend. You see, those same eyes before the game were probably glinting with the wonderful possibilities of what could actually happen with a win. “The hardest part is getting the kids to reach their potential,” said Say, who knows a thing or two about coaching football. He just finished his 26th season as Na […]
