MaxPreps: Crusaders No. 34, Red Raiders No. 39

Saint Louis and Kahuku both moved up consideraby in the CBS MaxPreps national computer rankings this week. The Crusaders (8-1) jumped 34 spots to No. 34, passing half the teams in front of them in last week’s rankings. A sixth shutout for the Kahuku defense in a 38-0 win over Waianae in the OIA D-I semifinals on Saturday night wasn’t enough to move up in the latest USA Today Super 25 rankings released Monday. Punahou senior Connor Lehl won Saturday’s ILH cross country championship, the final race before the state championship on Oct. 29. Lehl became Punahou’s first ILH boys winner since Todd Iacovelli, now one of Punahou’s coaches, went back-to-back in 2000 and 2001 (see list below). Hilo captured its fourth straight Big Island Interscholastic Federation Division I football championship on Friday night with a 40-3 title-game victory over Waiakea at Wong Stadium. The Vikings (8-1) and the Warriors (3-8) will move on to the Division I state championship in November. The BIIF’s Division II championship game is Saturday night at Konawaena.
