BIIF champion Hilo was rewarded with the top seed in Division I of the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA State Football Championships. Now the Vikings (8-1) have to prove they were worth the honor when they host Leilehua (4-7) at Ke’au on Friday night at 7 p.m. Hilo is 0-5 all-time in the state tournament but gave Kahuku quite the scare in the first round two years ago. Second-seeded Campbell in Division I of the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA State Football Championships hosts Waiakea in the first round on Friday night. Kahuku’s Maiava is USA Today Top Star

The USA Today Super 25 Top Star of the week honor was given to Kahuku freshman quarterback Sol-Jay Maiava on Thursday. The speedy playmaker scored two touchdowns in Kahuku’s 44-8 win over Farrington for the Oahu Interscholastic Association Division I football championship on Friday at Aloha Stadium. He was 6-for-10 with 128 passing yards and gained 79 rushing yards on just six carries. Maiava, who has a scholarship offer from Michigan, is the third Kahuku Red Raider to be honored […]

Polynesian Bowl continues to grow

The inaugural Polynesian Bowl scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 21 at Aloha Stadium is continuing to grow. The game has secured commitments from 68 players, including 14 currently playing for Hawaii high schools. Nineteen states are represented with 19 players currently listed in ESPN’s top 300. Farrington running back Challen Faamatau, who leads the state with 1,187 rushing yards and 16 rushing touchdowns entering the state tournament, accepted an invite this week.
