Second-seeded Campbell in Division I of the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA State Football Championships hosts Waiakea in the first round on Friday night.
The Sabers (8-4) are back in the state tournament for the first time since 2013, when it went 1-1 beating Hilo before losing to Mililani. Campbell won the Division II state tournament in 2004 and is 4-2 all-time in the state tournament. Waiakea (3-8) is making its second ever state tournament appearance and first since 2001, when it lost 53-8 to Kailua.
HISTORY: This is the first-ever meeting between Campbell and Waiakea.

9:37: Waiakea punter Ryder Quitoriano is brought down for a big loss by Campbell’s Ethan Muagututia after a bad snap.
9:31: Waiakea’s Wesley Amuimuia runs three straight times for 17 yards and a 15-yard personal foul penalty brings the ball to the Campbell 34.
9:28: Three plays later, Ulufale runs in his third touchdown of the night, from 9 yards out. Ariel Villanueva kicks the extra point. 9:26: On Waiakea’s first possession of the second half, Campbell’s Dominic Puaatuua stripped Kon of the ball and the Sabers’ Esprecion recovered.

9:02: A 17-yard Kon pass to Jason Kua-Cantan gets the ball to the Sabers 40, but time runs out in the half on an incomplete pass on the next play.
8:57: Ulufale’s 32-yard pass to Ramos brings the ball to the 1. On the next play, Faumui goes into the end zone untouched. Copp kicks the extra point. 8:50: On Waiakea’s next possession, Campbell’s Noah Empron picks off a Kon pass.
8:42: Three plays later, Abillanida finds Ramos in the end zone for a 14-yard touchdown. Copp kicks the extra point. 8:41: An Esprecion sack on Kon on Waikea’s fourth down situation hands the ball over to Campebll.
8:30: Ulufale’s deep pass is intercepted by Waiakea’s Cheyn Tam-Switzer.
8:28: Sabers driving on Ulufale passes of 22 yards to Chance Medeiros and 18 yards to Ramos.
8:22: Ulufale coughs up the ball on a hit by the Warriors’ Peter Matsuura and Fafo Tevaseu recovers. Waiakea drives as far as the Campbell 14, but turns the ball over when the Sabers’ Jaylen Ignatowski intercepts a Kon pass in the Campbell end zone.
8:14: Campbell’s Braden Kauhane intercepts a Kon pass. Sabers ball at their own 38-yard line.

8:12: Waiakea takes a gamble on a fourth and 1 at its own 25. Kon, the quarterback, picks up 2 yards and a first down. The Warriors get another first down on a Sabers unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.
8:05: Darius Cambe’s 18-yard run sets up Ulufale’s 21-yard touchdown keeper. The extra-point run failed. 8:01: Waiakea goes three and out and punts and the Sabers’ Tyrese Tafai returns the punt 54 yards to the Waiakea 30. A penalty brings it back to the 45.
7:56: A 29-yard Faumui gain for Campbell leads to Abillanida’s shovel-pass touchdown to Vernon Etrata-Daite for 9 yards. Copp adds the extra point. 7:50: Dustin Abillanida, who started at QB for the Sabers, is back in the game.
7:47: This is Waiakea’s first possession. Austin Deperalta runs for 4 yards. Two incomplete passes by Kon Ka‘iolana Kon follow. Warriors are punting.
7:45: Dane Esprecion recovers a fumble for the Sabers on the ensuing kickoff. Quarterback Kawika Ulufale, who did not start the game, runs in from 6 yards out. Ulufale then hits Markus Ramos for the 2-point conversion. 7:38: On Campbell’s fourth play from scrimmage, Tasi Faumui rumbles home for a 31-yard touchdown. Hunter Copp misses the extra point. 7:35: We are a few minutes away from kickoff.
