Hao says loyalty is No. 1 objective at Castle

By Paul Honda on January 12, 2017

In the decades since John Hao quarterbacked Saint Louis to a Prep Bowl title, played at Hawaii and coached at various schools, he has accomplished something few people would do. Or want to do. Hao, who was hired as the varsity football coach at Castle on Wednesday, fixes nuclear submarines. Or more accurately, he oversees more than 300 workers who repair the US Navy’s supreme vessels. In the spring of 2004 — back when girls basketball was played […]

She says she will inquire around Chaminade and Hawaii Pacific to see if they need any volunteer assistants. She has taken Kalaheo to the state tournament the last four years and five of the eight years she has been at the helm. She was hired in 2009 and won […]

HHSAA to honor Takai

By Jerry Campany on January 11, 2017

The HHSAA is renaming its swimming and diving championships after late congressman K. Mark Takai. The 1985 Hall of Honor inductee won the gold medal in the 100 freestyle in 1984 and was just the second boy to crack 48 seconds with his 47.9 clocking. He also won the 100 breaststroke that year with a time of 57.72 and defended his title the next year with a 59.98 effort. He was the first swimmer inducted into the Hall of Honor, […]
