By Billy Hull on June 13, 2017

The holiday weekend was a nice time to get away for a couple of days but there was plenty of news on the recruiting trail so lets get to it. >> The biggest news once again came from the University of Hawaii, which offered 11-year-old Titan Lacaden, who just recently completed the fifth grade. Kapolei adds Saint Louis transfer at QB

By Dave Reardon on June 12, 2017

Kapolei suffered a huge, at least somewhat unexpected, loss with record-setting quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa’s departure to Alabama earlier this year to be closer to his brother, Tua. Taulia posted incredible numbers as a freshman and sophomore and seemed well on his way to the greatest statistical career for a quarterback in Hawaii high school history. And it wasn’t just all numbers: Tagovailoa led Kapolei to a win over Punahou in the state tournament’s open division semifinals last year. But coach […]

The Year of the Saber has been, and as of this season, continues to be more than a sequel. Click here to view the 2017 Star-Advertiser All-State softball team that ran in Sunday’s newspaper. It is a trilogy. Three championships in a row, none coming so easily, not at all. Dani Cervantes, the 2017 Star-Advertiser Softball pitcher of the year for a second year in a row, did her part. With a young squad finding its identity, struggling at the […]

Lewis: ‘(OIA chooses) to come up small’

By Hawaii Prep World on June 10, 2017

It was quite the eventful week at the Hilton Waikoloa Village on the Big Island for the annual Hawaii Interscholastic Athletic Directors Association Conference. The big news came Friday when the OIA said it will not enter any teams in the Open Division of the state football tournament this year. That decision was met with plenty of blowblack, including from Star-Advertiser columnist Ferd Lewis, who wrote in Saturday’s newspaper, “what the Oahu Interscholastic Association did Friday was the bureaucratic version […]

Saint Louis teammates land Hawaii offer

By Billy Hull on June 9, 2017

Saint Louis teammates Jonah Panoke and Kai Kaneshiro put on impressive showings in the recently completed Gridiron Performance Academy football showcase at Saint Louis school. The hometown team noticed. Panoke, a 6-foot-2 wide receiver, and Kaneshiro, a 6-foot-2 defensive back, both said Friday night on Twitter that they had been offered by Hawaii after being recognized as top performers at the GPA camp that ended on Thursday. GOD IS GOOD! Blessed to have received my first offer from the University […]
