Kahuku, Saint Louis in MaxPreps top 100

They have combined to provide fans with two memorable state championship games in each of the past two seasons. Saint Louis, the reigning Open Division state champion, and Kahuku, the 2015 state champion which has lost only once in two years against Hawaii opponents, were both selected to Max Preps’ preseason list of the top 100 teams in the nation released on Thursday. For the first time since 2000, six Hawaii high school graduates were taken in the first 20 rounds of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft that ended Wednesday. After KJ Harrison, Ryley Widell and Tanner Nishioka were taken in the first 10 rounds on Tuesday, four more prep stars heard their names called today. Close to 20 sign up to be football officials

There is a football officials shortage in Hawaii and citizens are coming to the rescue. According Oahu Football Officials Association recruiting chairman Jim Beavers, recent notices in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser have led to close to 20 new faces signing up. The officials shortage has had a direct effect on the Oahu Interscholastic Association’s decision to schedule games from Wednesday through Saturday each week this fall instead of the regular Friday and Saturday slate.
