Punahou, ‘Iolani still perfect at Ann Kang tourney

The second day of the Ann Kang Invitational began this morning with one of the biggest matches so far. Undefeated teams in Pool A — Punahou and Long Beach Poly — met in the Lower Gym with the Buffanblu notching an impressive 25-15, 28-26 win over the Jackrabbits. Kalaheo forfeits varsity football game

Kalaheo’s varsity football team is forfeiting Saturday’s Oahu Interscholastic Association regular-season opening game against Waipahu. Harold Tanaka, the OIA football coordinator, called Hawaii Prep World on Thursday to say that Kalaheo suffered some injuries in practice Thursday and it brought the total amount of players on the roster below a safe level. OIA football changes in ’18 will be ‘quite drastic’

The Oahu Interscholastic Association is in the process of making big changes in football for 2018. Harold Tanaka, the OIA football coordinator, did not go into detail because the league is still in the talking stages, but he did say via cell phone on Tuesday that the changes will be “quite drastic.” Tanaka did not confirm that the league is planning to go to a three-tier format, but in February he mentioned that he thought the league should move to […]

Castle to get new LED stadium lights

New LED lights are being installed at the Castle football field, according to Department of Education spokesperson Lindsay Chambers. The work is planned to begin in October and that’s why the Knights’ schedule was changed to all road games for its Oahu Interscholastic Association season. Some of the nation’s top girls volleyball programs will be in town for the 29th annual Ann Kang Volleyball Invitational at ‘Iolani this week. The headliner is 2016 Southern California regional champion Santa Margarita, which will be looking for a better showing in the preseason tournament this year. Waianae’s Rosario expected back soon

Rico Rosario rushed for 1,266 yards and 15 touchdowns as a Waianae junior running back last season, so many people wondered why he didn’t play in a season-opening, nonleague, 49-7 home loss to Waianae last Saturday. Rosario said Tuesday night that he did not play in the game for two reasons. One, he broke a team rule, and two, he had an elbow injury suffered in a scrimmage against Punahou. 4 JV football teams bow out of games

Four Oahu Interscholastic Association junior varsity football teams will not be playing games this week. In three out of the four cases, the reason for forfeiting the JV contests is not enough JV players on the roster to safely play a game, according to OIA football coordinator Harold Tanaka.
