Kailua’s 29 beats Arizona squad

By Christian Shimabuku on August 19, 2017

Before No. 9 Kailua gets nine players back next week, the Surfriders went with what they had on Friday night against Buckeye Union (Ariz.), which was a grand total of 29 players according to head coach Joseph Wong. It led to many players going both ways. If that weren’t enough, it was a total grind of a game, a back-and-forth affair that the Surfriders eventually won 28-27 against a team that had almost twice as many (50) players listed on […]

Farrington defense keys breakthrough win

By Jason Kaneshiro on August 19, 2017

After an 0-2 start to the season, Farrington’s defense made sure the skid ended with Friday’s trip to Nanakuli. The Governors turned away an early threat from the Golden Hawks with the first of five takeaways and sparked a 35-0 win to avoid their first 0-3 start since 2005. Farrington last dropped their first two games in 2013 (to Waianae and Kamehameha) then reeled off eight consecutive wins. The Governors opened this season with losses to No. 6 Kamehameha and […]

Damien nearly knocks off California champs

By Billy Hull on August 18, 2017

Villa Park’s week-long trip to Hawaii culminated in its season opener against Damien on Friday night at Skippa Diaz Stadium. With a roster of over 90 players, the seven-time defending Crestview League 3A champions in Orange County, ranked No. 11 in the region, had the look of a vastly superior team to the Division II Monarchs. That was hardly the case as Damien, which suited roughly 1/3 the number of players as Villa Park, hung tight with Spartans the entire […]

By Hawaii Prep World on August 18, 2017

FINALLY. For the first time since 1975, Kahuku heads out to the West side to face Waianae at Raymond Torii Stadium. Waianae hasn’t beaten Kahuku since 2001, a span of 17 straight losses. The Seariders haven’t even scored on the Red Raiders since 2014 as Kahuku has posted four shutouts in a row in the series. It doesn’t bode well that the Seariders have scored one touchdown in eight quarters so far this season. Kahuku hasn’t won in Waianae since […]

GAME NIGHT 8/18: Farrington/Nanakuli

By Hawaii Prep World on August 18, 2017

For the first time since 2013, Farrington will take the field unranked in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser Top 10. That same year is also the last time the Govs started a season 0-2, but they bounced back to win the next eight. Can they do it again? The road begins in the Valley against Nanakuli, which earned its fist win since 2015 last week against Aiea. Nanakuli leads the series 3-1-1 but hasn’t beaten the Governors since 1984. Farrington hasn’t played […]
