‘Iolani takes Kitamura tournament title

‘Iolani, which finished the regular season fifth out of six teams in the ILH last year, will open the 2018 regular season riding a wave of momentum. Saint Louis defensive end/tight end Jim Nicholson was the ILH’s lineman of the year and player of the year by the Honolulu Advertiser and the lineman of the year by the Honolulu Star-Bulletin in 1967. Nicholson was 6-foot-7 and 245 pounds. His Crusaders teammate, fullback Donald Mahi, was named the back of the year by the Advertiser. Kalaheo’s Otero is Gatorade runner of year

Kalaheo’s Colby Otero is Hawaii’s Gatorade cross country runner of the year, the Gatorade Company announced recently. Otero is the first Gatorade Hawaii Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year to be chosen from Kalaheo. The awad recognizes outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field. A 5-foot-7, 125-pound senior, Otero won the state meet last fall with a time of 16 minutes, 21.91 seconds, breaking the tape 22.83 […]

Hukilau Cafe is off to a 3-0 start at the Pylon 7v7 tournament in Las Vegas today. Hukilau Cafe is 3-0 after defeating Team Utah Prospects 28-7, EAT 35-21 and Superior Edge 21-7. Beast808 is 2-1. After a ruling was handed down regarding the use of an ineligible player that ended Kahuku’s 2010 season, the Red Raiders bounced back the following season to win the 2011 state title under coach of the year Reggie Torres. Saint Louis swept everything in 1991 — winning its sixth straight Prep Bowl and the top honors on the Honolulu Advertiser All-State team. Offensive lineman Tasi Malepeai and quarterback Joel Lane were the lineman and back of the year, respectively. Cal Lee was the coach of the year.
