Sources: ‘Iolani football moving up to D-I

Hawaii Prep World has learned through multiple sources that the Interscholastic League of Honolulu has decided that ‘Iolani will move up to Division I for regular-season and state-tournament classification for football starting this fall. No official announcement has been made by the ILH. St. Francis, meanwhile, will move down to Division II. Campbell to play football game in Arizona

Campbell is taking a trip to the mainland for football this fall, according to head coach Darren Johnson. The Sabers will play O’Connor High in Phoenix on Aug. 31. The game came about due to Johnson’s connections with Eagles head coach Steve Casey. Johnson played wide receiver for Casey at Arizona Western and then was an assistant under Casey at Arizona Western. The Oregon Ducks opened spring football practice on Wednesday with one freshman listed as a starter on the depth chart. Linebacker Isaac Slade-Matautia, a 2017 Saint Louis graduate who redshirted last season with the Ducks, was listed as the starting JACK linebacker. Saints’ Ng named Gatorade player of the year

St. Francis junior guard Kameron Ng, who led the Saints to their second consecutive boys basketball state championship in Division II last month, was named the Gatorade Hawaii player of the year on Thursday. Q&A: Kamehameha OL Lokahi Pauole on The Opening

Three of the top five offensive linemen who performed at The Opening in San Francisco over the weekend came from Hawaii. Lokahi Pauole, Kamehameha’s stout lineman, rated No. 3 overall. The other two top-five OL from the islands were Enokk Vimahi of Kahuku and Duke Clemens of Punahou. Farrington’s Okimoto steps down as football coach

Farrington’s Randall Okimoto said Wednesday night he is leaving his job as football coach of the Governors after 16 years at the helm. Okimoto informed the school administration of his decision Monday and met with his players to tell them on Wednesday. Okimoto plans to spend more time with his children, ages 9 and 4, and wife.
