The Crusaders, winners of 20 consecutive games, dropped all the way down to No. 17 in the poll. Saint Louis dropped just one spot in the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 to No. 11. Castle a win away from D-I playoff berth

By Billy Hull on September 23, 2018

Three weeks ago, the Castle Knights were winless and dealing with a video that had surfaced on social media showing players running full sprint at each other from 20 yards away putting vicious hits on their teammates. Second-year coach John Hao referred all media inquiries on the matter to the Department of Education, but it was the lowest point of the season for a Castle team that was 0-4 for the first time since 2012. By Paul Honda on September 23, 2018

The “Kalihi Bowl” has often boiled down to a battle of wills in the trenches. Punahou’s Liufau causes major problems for Campbell

By Nick Abramo on September 22, 2018

It might be the flowing hair flopping back and forth, but Punahou’s Marist Liufau sure looks like a blur when he turns it on with intense closing speed on a defender. Liufau has been a force as a Punahou outside linebacker for three seasons now and he dialed up another choice performance Saturday night in the third-ranked Buffanblu’s 43-14 victory over No. 5 Campbell in Ewa Beach. No score in the first quarter? No problem. Leave it to Liufau. After […]

By Kyle Sakamoto on September 22, 2018

St. Francis’ Kip Akana and sons Bubba and Chase Akana have always been together on the football field. The father has coached his sons since they were 7 or 8, according to Bubba, a senior quarterback for the Saints. “It’s getting kind of tiring because it’s been like that my whole life,” Bubba said. That might be true, but one thing that never gets tiring is winning, which is something St. Francis has done a lot of this season. The […]
