Geremy Robinson sparks Moanalua into OIA final

By Paul Honda on February 11, 2019

On a night when Kahuku rained in eight 3-pointers and Moanalua missed all six of its attempts, fate would seem to favor the Red Raiders. Instead, it was Moanalua’s fastbreak and tough defense that turned momentum around in a 66-58 win over Kahuku on Monday night in the OIA semifinals at McKinley Student Council Gym. Geremy Robinson was a big part of that defensive spark with four steals to go with a game-high 25 points. The sophomore struggled at times […]

By Nick Abramo on February 11, 2019

Fred Salanoa is back as the football coach at Radford, according to three sources. The school has not made an announcement, and efforts to reach Radford athletic director Kelly Sur and Salanoa for confirmation have been unsuccessful. After that he was an assistant at three stops in the last three years — Eastern Washington, Punahou and Kamehameha. In his 13 seasons […]

It was more than a slam on Saturday, it was a double slam. Kealakehe’s Roxie Umu picked up her fourth BIIF title on Saturday at Keaau. Teammate Kobby Faeldonea did the same on the boys side. The Waveriders swept the team titles. Umu’s triumph is the first in school history. She joins Kayla Araki (2017) and Megan Aina (2012) of Kamehameha-Hawaii and Konawaena’s Alex Aoki (2010) are the only other girls to earn the slam. Those three combined for 10 […]

By Jerry Campany on February 10, 2019

Baldwin’s Jahnea Miguel found a new home at 138 pounds, and it feels much like all of her others. Miguel collected her third MIL title at a third different weight, stopping Chaenel Deluna of Molokai in two minutes to become the queen at 138 pounds. She won at 129 as a freshman and 145 last year when she moved up to help the Bears win the team title. Baldwin’s girls defended their title, scoring 148 points to Lahainaluna’s 134 at […]

Lahainaluna’s Kawehi Gillcoat earned a couple of big victories in the MIL wrestling championships on Saturday at King Kekaulike. He joined former teammate Kainalu Estrella, who did it last year, as just the second boy to complete the Maui slam. His second big victory has been done many times over. The Lunas won the boys championship with 226 points to Baldwin’s 215.5. […]
