Fred Salanoa is back as the football coach at Radford, according to three sources.

The school has not made an announcement, and efforts to reach Radford athletic director Kelly Sur and Salanoa for confirmation have been unsuccessful.

Salanoa, a former Radford and Eastern Washington quarterback, coached the Rams to the Division II state title in 2015. After that he was an assistant at three stops in the last three years — Eastern Washington, Punahou and Kamehameha.

In his 13 seasons as a head coach at Radford beginning in 2003, Salanoa compiled an 81-53 record, including marks of 73-27 in D-II and 8-26 in D-I.

Lon Passos took over for Salanoa with the Rams in 2016 and stepped down after the 2018 season. Salanoa and others interviewed for the job.

Passos went 3-24, including 2-8 in 2018, all in Division I.
