In the USA Today Super 25, however, St. Frances fell below Saint Louis to No. 9. With previous-No. 5 Marietta (Ga.) losing to Grayson […]

VIDEO: No. 2 Mililani’s ground-and-pound win over No. 9 Kamehameha

By Paul Honda on September 16, 2019

The Mililani Trojans entered the weekend averaging 30 carries per game. By the time they were done with a 34-0 win over No. 9 Kamehameha, the Trojans had run the ball 45 times for 171 yards. Deliberate at times, far from the hurry-up pace of the past. Sergio Muasau, one of their cogs in the trenches, was a key reason why. Jasiah Alcover rushed for 124 yards on 18 carries, and Malosi Sam tallied 88 yards and two TDs on […]

By Nick Abramo on September 15, 2019

Nuts, kooky, crazy. Take your pick. Nanakuli whooped it up in the locker room after a 35-34 dramatic overtime victory over Pearl City on Saturday night in the proud valley. The Golden Hawks had the biggest lead of the game at 12-0 before Pearl City came back for a 14-12 edge. There was a 20-all tie, and again a 28-all scoreboard showing. And then came the OT. Nanakuli quarterback Sedric Crawford was the difference. He rushed for 164 yards and […]

One half is enough for No. 1 Saint Louis to pound No. 4 Kahuku

By Christian Shimabuku on September 14, 2019

Recent history repeated itself in Saint Louis’ shortened 28-0 victory over Kahuku at Aloha Stadium on Saturday night. The No. 1 Crusaders, winners of the last three state championships in the Open Division, dominated despite playing just a half of football. Before last year’s meeting in the state semifinals, Saint Louis and Kahuku had never played in mercy rule conditions. Saturday night’s game certainly appeared to be heading in that direction before a 15-minute delay occurred at halftime. A handful […]

Saint Louis improved to 5-0 overall, 4-0 in ILH Open play. On a night when Kahuku was intent on asserting its ground attack, Saint Louis answered the call. It was a true test for the […]

Wet weather suits Kalani RB Nathaniel Balangitao just fine in win over McKinley

By Kyle Sakamoto on September 14, 2019

Kalani coach Scott Melemai noticed the rain at the start of his team’s game Saturday against McKinley at Roosevelt’s Ticky Vasconcellos Stadium. He then decided it was time for quarterback Logan Lim to hand the ball off to senior running back Nathaniel Balangitao. Even after the rain stopped, Balangitao kept getting the ball. Balangitao finished with 24 carries for 115 yards and a touchdown for the Falcons in a 36-14 victory over the Tigers in an OIA Division II game. […]
