Na Menehune fly to state’s large cheerleading title

The Moanalua cheerleading team changed its routine from a week ago and wound up nailing it Saturday. Na Menehune won the large division at the Zippy’s/HHSAA State Cheerleading Championship at the Neal Blaisdell Center. Moanalua scored 520 points in the five-team large division (12-20 squad members). Sacred Hearts repeats as medium cheer champion

Sacred Hearts successfully defended its state cheerleading title, finishing with 513 points in the 16-team medium division (11 or fewer squad members) on Saturday. Moanalua, Radford win state cheerleading

Moanalua and Radford won the large and medium divisions, respectively, at the 2015 Zippy’s/HHSAA Cheerleading State Championships on Sunday. 30 teams ranging from intermediate to varsity squads performed their routines at the Neal S Blaisdell Arena. Four teams competed in the large division, 13 teams competed in the medium, and the rest were JV and intermediate squads who performed as an exhibition. ‘Iolani had never won an Interscholastic League of Honolulu championship in cheerleading until this year. Iolani’s banner day just got even better. The Raiders won their first ever ILH cheerleading championship on Friday night at Kamehameha, scoring 324.75 points to Kamehameha’s 323. Kamehameha goes for ILH cheer repeat

Kamehameha will go for its second straight ILH cheerleading championship tonight at Kamehameha beginning at 6 p.m. The Warriors have won every ILH title except two, in 2012 and 2013 when Pac-Five rose up. The Warriors got the title back last year. Kamehameha can expect a challenge from another program looking for its first title this time. Kamehameha cheerleaders win in Orlando

The Kamehameha cheerleaders defended their title last weekend. The Warriors’ 14-member squad won the medium division of the “Game Day Championships” portion of the UCA National High School Cheerleading Championships last weekend in Orlando, Fla., and will return to Oahu on Tuesday. Kamehameha defeated nine other teams in that division, which is a relatively new category.
