TRENCH WARFARE: Manu vs. Amosa(s)

By Billy Hull on October 23, 2014

Defensive tackle Rex Manu has yet to make up his mind for college. For now he’s busy trying to wreck opposing defenses. The Mililani defensive tackle goes up against Campbell’s Atapana Amosa in tonight’s first OIA Division I semifinal game at Aloha Stadium. As always each series is judged on a 10-point must system like a boxing match. This is purely for fun. SERIES 1 Amosa goes head-to-head with Manu on the first play and holds up as Campbell completes […]

TRENCH WARFARE: Agasiva vs. Mageo

By Billy Hull on October 23, 2014

Mililani’s 6-foot-4, 280-pound offensive tackle Jordan Agasiva gave University of Hawaii fans something to cheer about when he committed to the Rainbow Warriors earlier this year. We get a chance to focus on him in the first of two OIA Division I semifinals tonight when his second-ranked Trojans face No. 6 Campbell. The Sabers will try and get pressure with 6-3, 230-pound defensive end Josiah Mageo, who has the tough task of trying to bring down Trojans QB McKenzie Milton […]

Campbell’s big test awaits

By Nick Abramo on October 22, 2014

Going into last Friday’s OIA quarterfinals, the Campbell at Leilehua matchup looked like a tossup on paper. That’s the way the game played out, and the Sabers (7-2) eventually took control with defense and ball control to move on to a rematch with Mililani (9-0) on Thursday at Aloha Stadium. Campbell came back from a 14-7 halftime lead for a 20-14 win, and sophomore quarterback Ezra Savea threw the ball just three times in the second half. The turning point […]

Oahu powers need to avoid the bagel

By Jerry Campany on October 19, 2014

It’s a mantra shared by all coaches still competing as the OIA enters its semifinals. Thinking like that is a big reason why they have made it this far. But they may be wise to look at the big picture and realize that all they have to do is win one game in two chances to make it to the state tournament. The OIA semifinals pit Campbell vs. Mililani and Kahuku vs. Farrington on Thursday at Aloha Stadium. Winners play […]

Campbell facing uphill battle

By Jerry Campany on October 18, 2014

Campbell has less than a week to try to ensure history does not repeat itself. The Sabers, fresh off a win over Leilehua in the OIA quarterfinals, put together a nice enough game that it should be able to soak it in for a while. But Campbell won’t have that luxury with No. 2 Mililani looming on Thursday in the semifinals. If anything, Campbell should be familiar with the way Mililani coach Rod York does things. The Sabers will be […]
