By Paul Honda on December 26, 2013

Baldwin was a surprise to an extent, a mystery team of sorts with some talented returnees. A win over then-No. 2 Farrington vaulted the Bears to the final of the Punahou Invitational — and a matchup with No. 1 Punahou. Even with a missing starter, Baldwin was right there with the Buffanblu and had the home team on the ropes. Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5

By Paul Honda on December 24, 2013

Pupule’s ballot BKB 11/23/13 1. PUN 2. IOL 3. FAR 4. BAL 5. MS 6. KON 7. KLH 8. STL 9. HIL 10. WAIK When I look at this week’s Star-Advertiser basketball polls — which non-subscribers can see on this blog’s front page — I’m in total agreement on the girls side. The boys side, not much. I’m OK with the first three spots going to Punahou, ‘Iolani and Farrington, but the pollsters have Maryknoll at No. 4 and I […]

By Paul Honda on December 21, 2013

White Station (Tenn.) 65, Westchester (Calif.) 41 ‘Iolani Classic final The Spartans dominated from the start. Didn’t expect a runaway. Westchester played a good tourney until tonight, but White Station’s defense was outstanding. Most Outstanding Player: Leron Black, who had 22 points and 10 rebounds tonight on top of yesterday’s 26/20 in the semifinals. MVP is White Station point guard Chris Chiozza. Job well done.

LIVE BLOG: Punahou Invitational, day 3

By Paul Honda on December 21, 2013

Final day of the Punahou Invitational. Wish I could’ve seen Baldwin earlier. And more of Hawaii Prep. Can’t be everywhere. Punahou 14, Baldwin 9, end first quarter The Bears roared to a 7-0 lead, but post Josiah Maglente-Tonu picked up his third foul. Punahou went on a 14-0 run, swishing four treys. Punahou 22, Baldwin 20, halftime The Buffanblu haven’t been able to get a lot of open looks from the arc since that big first-quarter run. They got the […]
