Waipahu Kobie Russell has decided to play college baseball instead of signing with the pros. Russell, who played shortstop for the Marauders before graduating in 2017, was drafted as a catcher by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 17th round of the Major League Baseball draft last month. Pearl City is looking for a new baseball coach. The Chargers went 6-9 a year ago under first-year head coach Peter Arakawa, and that included a 1-2 run in the OIA Division I playoffs. CBS MaxPreps picked Joey Cantillo to its 2017 All-American baseball team, the website announced Tuesday. Cantillo, a left-handed pitcher who led Kailua to its second straight Oahu Interscholastic Association championship, was one of 31 players to make the second team. Thirty-one players were picked to the first team. Cantillo, who is 6-foot-4 and 200 pounds, recently signed with the San Diego Padres and received a signing bonus of $302,500 after he was selected in the 16th round.
