Hawaii Baseball Group off to hot start

Members of the Hawaii Baseball Group posed for a team shot after play on Tuesday. The team will head to San Diego to compete in the Phil Singer Tournament this weekend.

The Hawaii Baseball Group, a summer traveling team coached by former UH assistants Keith Komeiji and Chad Konishi, are 6-2 on their current trip to California.

The team, which is made up of players who will be sophomores, juniors and seniors this year, leaves for Carlsbad, Calif., on Wednesday and will play in two games at Cal State Fullerton on Thursday before participating in the Phil Singer Tournament in San Diego from July 28 to August 4.

The 18-under event features 32 teams from across the country. HBG is seeded 14th overall.


HBG started their trip on Saturday and split a doubleheader against The Zoots at Saint Mary’s (Calif.), winning 6-3 and losing 8-3.


They then swept Sacramento Show by scores of 5-1 and 3-1 at Sacramento State on Sunday and beat Northern California 6-3 and 11-2 at Cal State East Bay on Monday. Today they split a doubleheader against Trosky Northern California, winning 2-0 and losing 3-2.
