The 2018 Wally Yonamine Foundation/HHSAA State Baseball Championships begin today with four first-round games in Division I at Les Murakami Stadium. Updates will follow below. Mililani catcher Korrey Siracusa, who has signed with Cal State Fullerton, was featured in today’s Honolulu Star-Advertiser which you can read here. Kailua’s Ballesteros shuts down Leilehua

The first two games of the Wally Yonamine Foundation/HHSAA State Baseball Championships have been dominated by pitching. Kailua’s Bryson Ballesteros threw the second shutout in as many games on Tuesday, allowing just two hits in a 3-0 win over Leilehua to give the Surfriders (13-3) their first win to open the state tournament in four years. With the exception of Leilehua, which had to play a play-in game on the Big Island against Hilo on Friday, every OIA team entered the state baseball tournament with at least 17 days between games. Three of the last six state baseball champions in Division I are seeded in the 2018 Wally Yonamine Foundation/HHSAA State Baseball Championships beginning Tuesday at Les Murakami Stadium. MIL champion Baldwin, ranked No. 23 in the nation by USA Today, is the top overall seed, followed by ILH champion Mid-Pacific and BIIF champion Waiakea. OIA champion Mililani is the fourth seed. Two-time defending ILH champion Damien is the top seed in Division II in the Wally Yonamine Foundation/HHSAA State Baseball Championships beginning Wednesday at Hans L’Orange Park. After going unscathed through the ILH’s double-elimination tournament to win its 14th ILH baseball championship under coach Dunn Muramaru, Mid-Pacific narrowly edged out MIL champion Baldwin for the No. 1 ranking in the latest Honolulu Star-Advertiser Baseball Top 10.
