For Big Island fans — Hilo Vikings in particular — this was David versus Goliath. A mid-sized high school on Waianuenue Ave. taking on the big boys from the OIA, a humongous school compared to Hilo High.
And for nearly three quarters, the underdog Viks were ready to shock the world. They led 17-14 through most of the third quarter. From there, however, the Vikings’ dream ended in a decisive way.
The voice you hear on the footage is Josh Pacheco of ESPN Hawaii (Big Island). He and Mark Veneri called the game in the pressbox, and I was lucky enough to be working next to them.
