Update: Farrington 17, Kapolei 10, Final

Kickoff for tonight’s OIA Red playoff quarterfinal between Farrington and Kapolei at Roosevelt’s Ticky Vasconcellos Stadium looks like it should be around 7:30 p.m. Farrington has won all four meetings against the Hurricanes, which have all been in the playoffs.

6:53 p.m.: JV game is in the books with Farrington defeating Kapolei, 34-14. Varsity kickoff in approx. 30 min.

6:57 p.m.: It’s pretty funny to see one of the top junior DL recruits in the entire country spending pregame warmups practicing punts with the special teams unit. Imagine 6-foot-3, 280-pound Breiden Fehoko in college ripping punts then charging down the field to tackle the returner. Scary.

7:29 p.m.: Farrington won the toss and will defer. Kapolei gets the ball first as we’re about to kick off.

7:39 p.m.: Kapolei picks up two first downs before punting. Lavatai runs for 13 yards for a first down before a Farrington punt.

7:43 p.m.: Aizon Kahana scrambles for 11 on third-and-four but it’s called bac by a hold. Incomplete on next pass and Kapolei punts again, losing 20 yard of field position on the hold.

7:53 p.m.: Kekoa Sasaoka ends a 13-play Farrington drive with a 30-yard field goal to give the Govs a 3-0 lead with :45 seconds remaining in the first quarter.

8:03 p.m.: Kapolei was rolling but Alton Julius came in for a play to run a QB keep and dropped the snap, resulting in an 8-yard loss. Kapolei’s punt goes into the end zone.

8:10 p.m.: Weird sequence. Kapolei jumps offsides on fourth-and-2 to give Farrington a first down but running back CJ Liana fumbles on the next play. Micah Parris on the recovery.

8:13 p.m.: Kahana hits Mana Reis for 8 yards on third-and-7 and then Triston Pebria with an amazing 29-yard touchdown run to give Kapolei a 7-3 lead with 3:22 remaining.

8:26 p.m. Farrington QB Montana Liana tosses a 35-yard pass to Jacob McEnroe with less than a minute remaining to put the ball at the Kapolei 16. Liana then finds Jacob Baguio two plays later for a 15-yard touchdown with 30 seconds remaining. Farrington 10, Kapolei 7.

8:27 p.m.: Sasaoka, the kicker, makes a touchdown-saving tackle on the ensuing kickoff as Mana Reis returns it 55 yards. Kapolei first-and-10 at the Farrington 40 with :15 seconds remaining.

8:28 p.m.: Kahana with a 17-yard scramble to the 23 with seven seconds remaining. Farrington LB Aaron Kesi hurt on the play. Kahana tries a QB draw but fumbles. Farrington recovers and the half is over. Kahana is still down and being looked at by the training staff.

8:35 p.m.: Second-half kickoff approximately 8:48 p.m.

8:57 p.m. Farrington goes three-and-out. Kahana back in at QB for Kapolei. Reis with an 18-yard reception. Pebria has a 33-yard TD run called back due to a hold, but Farrington with a personal foul.

9:05 p.m. HUGE kick by Alton Julius, who drills a 43-yard field goal to tie this game at 10-10 with 5:55 remaining in the third quarter.

9:14 p.m.: Farrington three-and-out again and Lavatai hasn’t been in the game. He went off in the second quarter a little gimpy, not sure he’s been back. Kapolei has fourth-and-inches at the Farrington 12 and Pebria is stopped short.

9:16 p.m.: Farrington get the ball and Liana is immediately intercepted by Tristan Centeio. Kapolei first-and-10 on the Farrington 22.

9:21 p.m.: Kapolei called for a personal foul but it looked like Breiden Fehoko flopped. Second time tonight it’s happened. Officials waved off flag on first one but this is enforced. Lengthy argument from Darren Hernandez. Now Kapolei moves early twice in a row. Kahana with a 17-yard run but Julius misses a 35-yard FG and it’s still tied with 10:54 left.

9:33 p.m.: Farrington having fumble problems with Lavatai out. Kapolei drives to the Farrington 7 but misses another field goal.

9:35 p.m.: Montana Liana with an 80-yard touchdown pass to Jacob Baguio on the very next play and Farrington leads, 17-10, with 6:24 left.

9:38 p.m. Kapolei fumbles on its next play. Farrington recovers. Hurricanes unraveling.

9:42 p.m. Sasaoka misses a 50-yard FG. Kapolei takes over on its own 20.


9:44 p.m.: Kahana is intercepted. Farrington in control now.

Farrington runs out the clock. That’s the game. Farrington advances.
