Kapolei defensive lineman Kingston Fernandez has committed to play football for Washington State, according to Hurricanes coach Darren Hernandez.
Fernandez also had offers from Arizona State, Cal, Colorado and several Mountain West Conference schools. He amassed 17 sacks this season.
The 6-foot-3, 245-pound defensive end is the third Hurricane to commit since the season ended. In early November, defensive tackle Kalani Vakameilalo committed to Oregon State. In early December, offensive lineman Micah Kapoi committed to Wisconsin.
Ferndandez won’t be the only island athlete heading to the Northwest. According to Pacific Islands Athletic Alliance, Lahainaluna defensive lineman Hercules Mata‘afa has also committed to Washington State.
