Kaiser got its wish in the offseason when it moved up into Division I after crushing the competition in winning the 2013 Division II state championship. Now the Cougars, coming off a 52-7 win over Aiea, face their first big test in visiting Waianae for a clash at Kaiser Stadium.

The Seariders, who lost 30-23 to Moanalua last week, haven’t played the Cougars at Kaiser Stadium dating back to the 1970s. Waianae has won nine of the last 10 meetings, but the one loss was a huge one. Kaiser defeated Waianae 20-13 in the 1979 OIA championship game before going on to defeat Kamehameha in the Prep Bowl

McDaniel with a 16-yard burst for a first down. Seariders caught with a personal foul call and Kaiser has it down to the Waianae 29. Judd with a nice 14-yard run down to the 10 but Kaiser gets hits with an unsportsmanlike penalty to move it back to the 25. Lots of flags early. Waianae is three-and-out as Cody Kim drops what could have been a pick-six. But Kaiser is whistled for 12 men on the field on the punt and Waianae is short by about a foot on its own 29. Kala-Mahiai with 2 yards and a first down. They are measuring it again though. The drive started on the 20 after the kickoff was in the endzone. They are measuring the ball that is more than length over the 30 and it’s good by an inch. Barbieto gets 7 yards on third-and-5 for a first down. Third-and-9 and Kaluhiokalani with another amazing scramble and he just barely gets the first down. A 13-yard completion from Kaluhiokalani to Tyler Stone.

Kaluhiokalani tries to scramble again and throws it away but is called for intentional grounding. That’s a loss of 21 yards. Waianae to punt with 33 seconds left in the half.

Punt goes to the Kaiser 15. Wouldn’t expect the Cougars to force anything here with 22.3 seconds remaining. Judd scrambles for 6. McDaniel takes a backwards pass for 4 yards and it’s halftime tied 7-7.

I’m heading down to the field with 3 minutes left. But first, Kaluhiokalani with a 45-yard touchdown pass to Spencer to make it 26-7 with 2:09 left.
