Kamehameha huddles in the end zone before the game.
Kamehameha huddles in the end zone before the game.

The second round of the ILH season gets underway tonight with a critical game for both No. 2 Saint Louis and No. 5 Kamehameha. The loser isn’t eliminated from the ILH race but let’s just put it this way: the loser is in real trouble.

Saint Louis won the first meeting 31-27 but was shut out in the second half by the Warriors, who lost sophomore QB Thomas Yam late in the fourth quarter on a controversial hit by Saint Louis’ Dylan Toilolo.

The Crusaders have won the last three meetings. Kickoff is 6 p.m.

Live updates to follow:

Kamehameha wins the toss and will receive. Saint Louis is without DL Tristan Nichols, who was ejected in last week’s game against Punahou and must sit out.

Warriors get the ball first with Justice Young starting at QB. He hits RB Jordan Bayudan out of the backfield for two completions and Bayudan with a 13-yard run. Young with a pass that hits Kumoku Noa in stride but he can’t haul it in and it pops in the air. Interception by Dylan Toilolo. Saint Louis takes over.

CORRECTION: Ronson Timbreza, not Toilolo, had the pick. He ends up with three in the game.

Dylan Silva starts at RB and carries for 7 yards. LB Tainoa Foster sacks Tua Tagovailoa on second down for a huge loss and his deep pass on third down is incomplete. Saint Louis punts.

Kamehameha gets one first down but it’s fourth-and-1 on the Warriors 44. Kamehameha lines up to go for it but Young kicks it and rolls all the way to the 1. Crusaders ball.

SAFETY. Crusaders try a quick pass on their own 1 and Foster sniffs it out and tackles Ronson Young in the end zone for a safety. A couple of big plays from Foster already.

Kamehameha continues with the quick throws outside that are sometimes forward and sometimes backward. Jaykob Cabunoc with a slant over the middle for 16 yards down to the 26. Saint Louis LB Jordan Iosefa reads the next quick pass backwards and lays out Cabunoc for a 7-yard loss. Kamehameha gets into field goal range and Adam Stack kicks a 43-yard field goal. Kamehameha 5, Saint Louis 0, 5:06, Q1.

Saint Louis faces a third-and-1 after a 9-yard reception by Joshua Tokunaga. Tagovailoa keeps the handoff but Kamehameha DL Nakoa Pauole blows up the play and stops Tagovailoa for a 3-yard loss. Rare back-to-back three-and-outs for Saint Louis, which has negative-2 yards.

Kamehameha starts with two incompletions but then executes a perfect screen to Bayudan for 28 yards for a first down. Great call against the blitz. Kamehameha runs it the next seven plays as Bayudan gets the big 22-yarder to the 1. After getting stuffed by LB Isaac Slade-Matautia on first down, Kamehameha throws it and Young finds Noa for the 1-yard TD pass. 12-0, 0:42, Q1.

Tagovailoa escapes for a 17-yard run and then hits Leelan Oasay for 8 yards as the quarter ends. Largest deficit of the year for Saint Louis.

DB Kamaehu Kamaka shaken up on the first play of the second quarter for Kamehameha. Tagovailoa throws deep to Young on the next play and he leaps up and grabs it over the DB who falls to the ground. 57-yard TD pass. 12-6, 11:35, Q2.

Young tries to go deep to Noa on the first play but Saint Louis DB Keliam Brunn makes a great play to break it up. DL Michael Malepeai makes the stop on a Young run on third down and Kamehameha is three-and-out.

Saint Louis starts on the 38 but a holding call pushes it back 18 yards. Tagovailoa gets a defensive pass interference on a deep ball to get 15 back but it’s incomplete on third down and Saint Louis will punt.

Tanielu Evaimalo sacks Young on first down. It’s third-and-7 and Noa runs a 15-yard out and Young hits him near the sideline. Noa stays in bounds and then makes a move on the defender and gets a step. Noa showing off the speed and nobody can catch him for Saint Louis. What a play. 79-yard TD catch-and-run makes it 19-6, 7:14, Q2.

Another missed throw on first down by Tagovailoa, who scrambles out of trouble and turns a potential big loss into a 3-yard pass to Drew Kobayashi on second down. Third down pass sails out of bounds. Saint Louis with a fourth three-and-out this half. Tagovailoa doesn’t look like himself out there.

Young-to-Cabunoc for 10 yards and Young is already up to 178 yards passing. Kamehameha loses 16 yards on a hold but gets it right back as Cabunoc takes the quick pass for 20 yards. Saint Louis hasn’t adjusted to this passing scheme that we have seen this year. Noah Sua-Godinet makes the defender miss on the same pass and gets 10. Young to Noa for 15 yards, who just gets tripped up enough to go down. He almost broke that one and would have been gone. Young goes deep corner to Sua-Godinet who drops it. What great touch by Young. Third-and-10 at the 19. Noa gets open behind the defense in the same corner but Young overthrows that one. Stack comes in for the 36-yard field goal. It’s good. Kamehameha 22, Saint Louis 6, 5:07, Q2.

Kamehameha looks to have Saint Louis in another third-and-long situation but is called for targeting. First down Crusaders. Tagovailoa hits Young for 10. A screen is blown up and Tagovailoa has a guy wide open across the field. Not the easiest throw but it’s way under thrown. I just haven’t seen Tagovailoa struggle like this in a game. There’s a nice throw of 15 yards on third-and-10 to Kobayashi. Tagovailoa scrambles for 8 yards to get into positive yardage rushing for the game. Now a designed run is called for Tagovailoa for 12. Tagovailoa to Oasay for a 13-yard TD as Oasay gets wide open. 22-13, 2:38, Q2.

Saint Louis has a chance to force a three-and-out but they hand off to Cabunoc in motion and he is able to turn it up field for 5 yards and a first down. Two weird plays in a row. First there’s a fumble that is near the sideline where the receiver was ruled down. Not sure he was down but Saint Louis wouldn’t have recovered anyway as Slade-Matautia grabbed it but half of his body was out of bounds. Young is hit on the next play on a throw and Kamehameha looks like it recovers. Timeout Kamehameha. Now during the timeout the referee says it’s Saint Louis ball. We’ll have to look at Paul Honda’s video later on that one. I thought Kamehameha had recovered it.

It’s Saint Louis ball with 16 seconds left on the Kamehameha 43. Quick look on Honda’s camera looks Kamehameha recovered it easy and it might have been an incomplete pass anyway. Tagovailoa takes a shot deep to the end zone and it’s incomplete. He goes deep again and it’s incomplete. We go to the half.

Danger time for Kamehameha as Toilolo drops a pass from Young. Young hits Noa for 28 yards but Bayudan is drilled after a 10-yard run on the next play and Slade-Matautia recovers it. Bayudan comes off slowly and it’s his right arm. Saint Louis ball. A 9-yard run is stopped by Foster at the 6 and then Foster forces Tagovailoa out of bounds for a 4-yard sack.
