LIVE BLOG: Mililani 49, Campbell 21, F

There’s a faint breeze here at John Kauinana Stadium. In other words, it’s a chilly place to be compared to the rest of the island, where temperatures got a high as 93 degrees (I was at ‘Iolani shooting video earlier) and humidity.. HUMIDITY? Awful today.

Mililani beat Campbell in the earlier JV game. Varsity kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

FIRST QUARTER
The Trojans’ first series is drenched by rain and Vavae Malepeai commits a rare fumble, recovered by Campbell at its 30. Mililani’s starting QB and RB are out with injuries.

Lighting flashes and rumbling thunder out here. Just occasional.

Mililani’s pass rush is wreaking havoc on the Sabers. Savion Fonoti with two sacks. Vavae Malepeai’s 1-yard blast is the first TD. MIL 7, CAM 0, 5:59.

Another TD run for Malepeai, this one from 10 yards on the read option. MIL 14, CAM 0, 4:07.

With RB Terell Johnsonout, the Sabers’ offense is struggling, no surprise. But backup QB Kawika Ulufale, a junior, is a threat with his wheels. Though he’s been sacked three times, he has eluded a few more.

Milton is masterful, hitting short passes and scrambling for first downs. Malepeai scores his third TD, a left side run then against the grain to the right from 16 yards out. MIL 21, CAM 0, 9:26.

SECOND QUARTER
With 5:29 left in the second quarter, the referee has called for a 10-minute delay due to weather. There’s no rain, lightning or thunder and hasn’t been for the past 20 or 30 minutes.

After a 40-yard keeper by Milton, he finds Kalakaua Timoteo for a 31-yard TD bomb. Against double coverage. MIL 28, CAM 0, 3:48.

This second quarter has taken almost forever. As the heaviest rain of the night hit the field, Mililani muffed a high punt and Campbell recovered at the MIL 12. A dust-up at midfield during the play led to a player ejection as officials conferred for almost 10 minutes. Lot of delays, and 16 penalties combined in the first half, not to mention several serious injuries.

Campbell gets on the board. Ulufale to Markus Ramos on an alley-oop toss for a 17-yard TD. MIL 28, CAM 7, :51.

Halftime: MIL ha 12 penalties for 142 yards.

Also, this is not confirmed, but I’m hearing that Milton was the player who was ejected for leaving the bench and running on the field during that dust-up. If this is true, he would have to sit out the next game by rule.

The first half has taken 2 hours and 20 minutes or so.

UPDATE: It’s another Mililani player who was ejected, not Milton. Somewhat similar jersey number. Good news for Trojan fans.

THIRD QUARTER
MIL drives 52 yards in four plays. Malepeai scores easily on a 1-yard run. MIL 35, CAM 7, 9:07.

Malepeai’s monster night continues with a 19-yard swing pass for a TD. MIL 42, CAM 7, 6:27.

Campbell gets a lucky bounce, an overthrown pass by Ulufale that is deflected by a Mililani safety and into the hands of Esprecion. He goes the rest of the way for a 66-yard TD. MIL 42, CAM 13, 4:56.

Mililani promptly goes 72 yards in seven plays. Milton finds reserve slotback Chad Senas for a 10-yard TD in the back of the end zone. MIL 49, CAM 13, 3:00.

FOURTH QUARTER
Ulufale scores on a 2-yard sneak. He scores on the rollout on the PAT. MIL 49, CAM 21, 2:31.
