Kapolei’s Emmsley invited to Polynesian Bowl

The first of 26 players from Hawaii to receive invites to the 2018 Polynesian Bowl over the next 13 weeks is Kapolei senior defensive end Kukea Emmsley.

Emmsley, who is 6-foot-5 and 230 pounds, committed to Boise State just before the start of the season. He recovered a fumble in a 7-0 win over Waianae two weeks ago and had a sack in last week’s game against Castle that was eventually forfeited by the fifth-ranked Hurricanes for using an ineligible player.

He is one of six starters on defense for the Hurricanes who received at least one Division I scholarship offer. Emmsley chose the Broncos out of nine offers that included Air Force, Army, Fresno State, Hawaii, Idaho, Navy, Oregon and Oregon State.

His uncle, Loa Emmsley, was a defensive tackle at Boise State from 2002 to ’06.

Emmsley joins Hurricanes teammate Rockey Savea, Kahuku’s Samson Reed, Waianae’s Kana’i Mauga and ‘Iolani’s Justin Genovia as players from Hawaii selected for the 2018 Polynesian Bowl, which will be held on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018, at Aloha Stadium.

The next invite will first be revealed tonight on the KHON2 newscast at 6.
