Kahuku rose one spot to No. 17 in the USA Today Super 25 expert rankings released Monday.
The Red Raiders (4-0, 4-0 Oahu Interscholastic Association Blue) are coming off a 44-0 win over Campbell on Friday.
Bishop Gorman of Las Vegas — Kahuku’s opponent in Las Vegas on Sept. 17 — remained in the No. 1 spot after beating Cocoa Beach (Cocoa Beach, Fla.) 46-10 on Friday.
The Gaels (2-0) have a huge game coming up next Friday, when they visit No. 7 St. John Bosco of Bellflower, Calif., in Long Beach, Calif.
In the USA Today Super 25 West Regional rankings, Kahuku is No. 5, preceded by Bishop Gorman, Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.), St. John Bosco and Centennial (Corona, Calif.).
The Red Raiders play at Radford on Friday before their trip to Las Vegas and the matchup with the Gaels.
In the CBS MaxPreps national computer rankings, Kahuku dropped eight spots to No. 68 on Monday.
BG going to Texas and Florida and blowing out those teams says alot. If they beat St.Johns, wow. Like I said last year prior to a “high” octane championship, pound it, clock management and defense. See you at the game. Don’t forget “Red Raider Rally” on thurs. 9/15 at the Fremont Street Experience. 6-8 pm. Right on the mall.
@Manley – http://sportsday.dallasnews.com/high-school/high-schools/2016/09/01/thsca-president-cedar-hill-bishop-gorman-different-entities-need-star-football-schools
SimpleSimon, that open letter you linked to is BS. Texas public schools recruit hard. Their coaches get paid six figures in some cases. School districts are opened up and rezoned in order to grab kids from a wider population base, this definitely includes Cedar Hill. Bishop Gorman is a private school in Nevada, but a lot (as in, the majority) of their players come from the Vegas area and has developed through their local programs. To claim that a private school like BG has no community or the players have no “roots” is BS of the highest level.
It’s also very similar to claims by (usually) kahuku fans here claiming that only public schools, specifically their school, has community pride but private schools don’t. Go to any Punahou function or Founder’s Day at Kamehameha and watch graduates get emotional when they sing their alma mater. Now how many public school grads return to their schools, sing the alma mater proudly with everyone, and even shed tears hearing it? Most public school grads treat high school like a prison and never come back once they leave the community.
So let’s not get all high and mighty with the “only public school has roots in the community” thing. The world is bigger than your town.
THSCA president is just butthurt, that’s all. Kahuku will most likely lose to BG on the road. And if that happens, that’ll be totally okay. It’s a good experience for the kids and it’ll help them grow as players and create good memories down the road when they’re adults.
It’s just really sad when high school football is played for the ego of the adults, not for the joy of the kids.
@Jeezy
How do you know why the kids play? “Ego of the Adults” Is that your way of crying yourself to sleep at night as to why your Alma Mater isn’t as successful? No matter what the reason, our high school is the envy of all high schools. Wish it was equally true about academics, but it’s not. But that’s the world we live in…Mariota said so himself. When you meet someone from Hawaii, one of the first questions asked is “What High School you went to?” Depending on your response, you either get immediate respect or immediately dismissed.
For all the Academic accolades that Private Schoold get, everyone knows it’s all about who’s Physically more dominant. That’s why we watch Olympics, not the Spelling Bee Championships. Everyone knows
Usiain Bolt and not Christopher Michael Langan(look it up).
After this week, should we take care of Radford, would be nice to see all of 808 rally around our boys. Winning would elevate all the programs here in Hawaii. I can only imagine that scholarships for all teams would see a dramatic increase. Good Luck to all…GO BIG RED!
Nobody said anything about ILH schools not having pride.
Football at BG is elevated because of the egos of adults, the Fertitta brothers and every other booster donate so that they can say they have the best program in the country. Same deal with the ILH Hawaii private schools that have boosters. OIA Public schools dont have boosters we only have annoying anonymous posters on the internet complaining and/or boasting…..we have posters not boosters. lol
BG recruits the elite talent from their state and then goes out across the nation to fill in the gaps with 6 or 7 EXTRAORDINARY ELITE talent from all over the nation specifically west coast, California, Hawaii, Nevada, Washington, Texas.
Imagine St.Louis having the state wide talent they have now, basically a Hawaii All-star team, and then going to Cali to get 2 speed burner WR’s, 2 Speedburner DB’s from Arizona, 1 linebacker from Nevada, 1 Dlinemen from Oregon. Thats only 6 out-of-state recruits but those 6 will turn St.Louis from the 2nd best team in Hawaii to probably a Top5 team in the nation. Thats what schools like BG and IMG do, find all the best talent in their area and then go out of state to get what they dont have in-state.
Kahuku has a RB that transfered from Utah who was 3rd string at his old high school. Kahukus 2nd string QB this year transfered to Utah and is now starting at that school. With public schools its an organic process, kids transfer to find play time. BG and other private schools like the ILH recruit to stack their team with the most talented kids they can find.
btw. St.Louis has been getting a taste of their own medicine with this recruiting thing, like how they hand select the best players our of Waiane, Kahuku, Kalihi etc…BG has been coming and cherry picking kids out of St. Louis. hahahahaha, (Otukolo, Slade, Haskell), BG has even offered (over the years) 4 kids so far out of Kahuku but only one went but then eventually moved to Utah.

Um, with all the money we make from graduating from Iolani and Punahou why would I be a sore loser? When I stand on my balcony and look out at the Pacific I know I am winning.
And if money isn’t the name of the game, why even go to school? Obviously it has to be a little since gaining knowledge isn’t the goal out at Kahuku either.
Ask 88, he has been to my place many times. I live on Kahala Avenue. He can tell you exactly which house it is.
808 RR4L – your brother didnt play for Kahuku and you are not from kahuku, if so what year did your bro play and what was the QB name? go back to sandy beach and play your uke under the tree while smoking your pakalolo, hahahahahahaaaaaaaawaaaaiiiiian!
@I love 88 , wea’s ur address I can get 88 and den u guys can get money. Ur not winning just because u get to look at the pacific ocean on ur balcony, wea u live KPT, hello everyone who lives in Hawaii can see the pacific ocean ur so dumb bro we’re surrounded by ocean Haha.

Um everyone who lives in Hawaii can see the Pacific? So all the condos and apartments in Downtown that sits behind another large building that has it’s view of the ocean obstructed can see? Are you telling me there are people who have x-ray vision! That’s cool! Only such an intelligent person from Kahuku could invent x-ray glasses to give humans X-Ray Vision!
88, did you hear that? WOW!
@I love 88 , I didn’t say anything about having x-ray vision. And stop trying to add more cuz ur getting roasted from a 10 year old. @808 RRFL,
Why hate on your local neighbors? You get one big game coming up and the focus should on them. I get small kine wager with me cuz from LAS… i riding with you on this one! I’d rather hear about how much RR going pound the a$$ of BG. As you and I know… BG is way overrated… and RR way underrated. RR not going up there just to show face…. they going there to show them who they are and leave with a W. Tired of mainland teams outranking our best teams… Here’s Hawaii’s chance to prove them wrong…. and make us proud with the W in BG’s face!

Can someone in the Kahuku area please interpret this for us? I mean damn, do you guys out there even have standards for yourselves out there? I have never seen such low level writing in my entire life. It’s no wonder why you guys test in the bottom 5% of the state.
I hope that football state trophy and title are worth something. I am guessing you might be able to trade it for a bowl of soup. But what happens after that?
Here is the website for McDonald’s. You guys can get to the front of the line and apply early: https://www.mcdonalds.com/us/en-us.html
Under work history you can put “Football All-Star” and I am sure you will be hired. Most companies prefer a college degree. Luckily for you guys McDonald’s does not.
Could you imagine what would happen if the McDonald’s and P.C.C. shut down? Where would you guys get jobs at?
@808 RRFL,
In your quote, “…BOTTOM LINE IS THIS: WE STAY TALKING ABOUT FOOTBALL, NOT SCHOOLBALL OR XRAYBALL. BIG RED LICK ALL YOU GUYS. END OF STORY. STOP HATING AND GO HOME COOK RICE!”
Das 2 Funny, cuz that’s exactly what peeps in 702 said BG going do to RR. So EZ to bully the small local guys… try that on big guys like BG. I no like hear you say stuff like we going try our best…. or give our 100%… etc…. Go up there and get the job done. If you going talk trash, how ’bout directing to BG? Unless…. you think you might lose. Have some confidence and send some trash out to 702!
Quite a few Kahuku Football State Champs and alumni are Police Officers, Fire Fighters, Doctors, Buiness Owners, Prior Buisness owners(who sold the company they founded for millions) and now own new Buisness, Football coaches at the D1 level, etc…. I haven’t seen 1 football all star working at McDonald’s yet but if they did why knock someone for earning a honest day’s wage. Are you afraid that you might get demoted back to washing lettuce by one of them?
So much haters on the RR nation and imitators too

Every school will have a few successful graduates. It’s called an anomaly. I am talking about the “whole” picture. And what businesses are you talking about? It’s very easy to do a check on the ownership on business. Can you please list a few? I bet most of them are in the Kahuku area and I bet the number is low.
Now if you are talking about Tita’s, then all praise Tita’s! All praise Tita’s!
haters actually fuel the motivation for our football team to play lights out, thanks education first for displaying the hate that we know jealous people have on the championship caliber nationally recognized program that is kahuku football
Hard to hold a schools reputation based on sports. The “high school life” & the “after high school life” doesn’t change. That’s why they only live for “high school football”. Grown adults getting all emotional over high school kids playing sports. Funny but at the same time sad.
I guess Kahuku just has a lot of anomalies who are successful and happen to have played football. Maybe you won’t be demoted back to washing lettuce after all.

I actually have hate for the many adults that contribute for the opportunities that are lacking for many of these teenagers. You just continue to strengthen my argument that academics take a back seat, way in the back to academics.
I would embarrassed to be part of a school that has such bad test scores. But hey, if you can win a state title I guess it’s okay that you kids struggle to do basic things like read, write, and count.
Math Meeting Standard (2014-2015) – 28%
ELA/Literacy Meeting Standard – 20%
Science Proficiency – 26%
This is absolutely terrible. But I guess when your kids are dumb you have to take solace in football. After all what else is there other than football, bad test scores, living in poverty, and working at the P.C.C. or McDonald’s out there.
Personally I would rather have my kid play jacks or thumb wrestling and be able to count to 20 without having to take their shoes off to help them than being good at a game that ends at 18 years old (assuming that Kahuku doesn’t have kid who have flunked 3-5 times and are like 21-23 years of age) for most of them.
88 September 6, 2016 at 11:01 am
I guess Kahuku just has a lot of anomalies who are successful and happen to have played football. Maybe you won’t be demoted back to washing lettuce after all.
Um, I have yet to see you name one? And since Kahuku has 1464 students enrolled for 6 grades, let’s say grade 12 graduates (yes I know many of them do not graduate) 244 kids.
How many kids out of 244 per year make it to the NFL? I bet you it is less than 1%.
Last time I checked, less than 1% per a grade level of 244 is less than an anomaly. It is almost a zero.
So once again, can you name all “these anomalies” that you are talking about? let me guess who they are:
Falofa Sagapolutele, Saki Telavai, Pia Faamoe, Alvin Moe, Tui Televai. Yeah I can make up names too.
I love how you write things without any evidence. But then again you are from Kahuku so you were never taught that is how you make your argument more credible and believable. I forgive you maam.
And for the record, my numbers come straight from US News and World Report based on the numbers that Kahuku High School and Intermediate School submits.
@ education first
How bout you teach at kahuku since your so obsessed with kahuku education and 88.
HEY red raider fans, let’s leave education first alone. we are just adding more fuel to this fire.He loves this, he craves this, so leave him alone. he needs help.
go big red!!!
@Education First
LMAO!
We should be supporting our local boys to play the #1 HS team in the nation. Regardless of what community you belong to. Kahuku is representing HAWAII. The BOYS know it will be a tough game. It’s a no brainer. Though there some pure hearted supporters from Kahuku with comments may seem out of range, it is the kids that will be playing this game. 15-18 year old kids. So support and cheer our boys!! Go KAHUKU!!
I won’t name names but if you know anything about Kahuku football you will know who I am talking about. There are Two bro. both are Super Bowl Champs 1 is a State Champ. The State champs teammate at Kahuku made it to the league also and oddly enough they played against each other in the Super Bowl. There is an undersized center who is a Kahuku OIA champ who started his small Buisness and than sold it for a ridiculous amount of $$ and than started up another successful one. One of his teammates on that Kahuku team retired from the NFL and is a successful buisness owner on the mainland. Another teammate from that very team is a coach at a school in the ACC(making a little more than McDonald’s I hope) and another teammate on that team you sometimes see in the movies. There is also a All State RB who is also a teammate of one the bro. I mentioned earlier that won a State title who is a police officer. There is an All State Saftey who changed his position to OLINE who is now a police officer. A WR who is a Firefighter, a RB who is now a retired US Congressman, etc…….. There are many more anomalies from Kahuku’s football team but I don’t want to keep you from your lettuce washing duties.

Let me guess, a kicker is an astronaut. Another backup safety is a CEO of a bank. Another WR is the inventor of eBay. Another person is a Sultan. C’mon man, anyone can make up stuff. You have not put a single name.
Like I said, I guess that is what you are taught at Kahuku. You do not have to put credible and concrete evidence to support your argument. And please, use spell check!
and 88, regarding football, you have named 2 brothers out of a population that graduated from 15 years ago to now that covers about 3660 students. Great example of how .0005 of all students over the past 15 years have made it to the NFL using your evidence.
I don’t know. But that is really low. I have a better chance of winning POWERBALL.
@Education First
Barely 1%
I have to use graduates as examples because you asked for examples of successful Kahuku football players you turd. Now if you want examples of current football players I would say look at the athletes on the team now who are being offered FULL ride scholarships from schools such as Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt, BYU, UTAH, UCLA etc…. Not just 1 or 2 players now but a handful of these kids are being offered. Do you think these schools would throw away $100,000 scholarship offers on kids who don’t meet their academic standards? Get back to your lettuce Bradah. And I will turn on my spell check when you turn on your grammar check. Judging from previous posts Education wasn’t 1st on your priority list.
@education first. With the money you make, why don’t you start a foundation where you can offer Low income kids a better education. This will help your taxes. And, your money will not only give them a better education, it will help them become bloggers that will educate uneducated parents. Lol…
Hey, look at that. This article is about the Kahuku football team moving up to 17th out of over 14K teams in the nation on the USA Today rankings ! It also says they’re gonna play the newly ranked number 1 team in the nation. Wow, what a great accomplishment and opportunity for the kids on this team to represent Hawaii football. I also heard that none of the kids are on academic suspension and 80% of the team finished with a 3.0 and higher last year. Kahuku is also the only school implementing a 2.3 rather than a 2.0 eligibility requirement. This is great news! Best of luck Red Raiders! You make Hawaii proud boys!
Ps. Nevermind the negative comments from all the grown ups on this blog. It’s embarrassing to see how they can stoop that low and spend all their time on their iPhones trying to prove worthless points. Please forgive them for they have no life other than this blog. Just keep on striving and moving in the right direction.
I believe “Educationfirst” is also the user from last year “EManoa” that talked so much crap about Kahuku that it fired up Kahuku to lay the smack down in the state tourney.
Keep talking Educationfirst you are only going to make it harder for your ILH teams in the playoffs.
