GAME NIGHT 9/22: Aiea/Waianae

The Seariders will try to keep their hopes of getting a bye in the first round of the OIA playoffs alive with a win over Na Alii tonight out on the West side.

9:58: Ezekiel Ayala gets a late interception for Waianae.

9:55: Three plays later, Kenneth Joseph Jr. scores on an 8-yard run. After a bad snap, Ayala, the holder, runs in the 2-pointer. WAIANAE 44, AIEA 0, 2:02 left in game.

9:52: A couple of complete passes by Rapis moves the ball into Waianae territory, but Waianae’s Kahooilihala recovers a fumble and returns it 68 yards to the Aiea 14.

9:48: Aiea punts but gets the ball back again on Babu Capanang’s interception of backup QB Elijah Lujan’s interception.

9:44: Tacgere can’t control a snap, the ball hits the ground and is recovered by Aiea’s Lualemana.

FOURTH QUARTER

9:41: Third quarter ends.

9:39: Christian Rapis is in at QB for Aiea. Na Alii, however, go three and out and punt.

9:33: Kaimana Swann-Merritt intercepts a Matsunami pass and returns it 32 yards for a touchdown. Ebel adds the extra-point kick. Waianae 36, Aiea 0, 5:29 left in third quarter. Running clock.

9:26: Waianae drives 49 yards on its first possession of the second half. Eteuati Lui punches it home from 3 yards out. The snap on the extra-point try is low and the holder, Braiden Ayala, picks up the ball from the ground and throws a 2-point pass to Mauga. WAIANAE 29, AIEA 0, 6:40 to go in the third quarter.

9:18: Matsunami’s scrambling doesn’t help out this time. On the second play of the third quarter, Waianae’s Kawika Sementi-Nakoa catches him for a 17-yard loss. Aiea ends up punting. Waianae ball at Na Alii’s 49.

THIRD QUARTER

8:48: Halftime.

8:47: Tacgere takes off up the middle for a 29-yard gain to the Aiea 15.

8:45: On a fourth and five, Kanai Mauga — normally a defensive player — runs the ball for six yards and a Waianae first down. Ball at the Aiea 44.


8:40: Na Alii can’t get anywhere on four downs and the Seariders take over on their own 31.

8:38: Aiea gets the ball back when Romance Maae-Liupaono recovers a muffed Waianae punt return.

8:36: Tytin Kahoolilihala sacks Matsunami and the Aiea drives sputters.

8:33: A mad scramble by Matsunami near his own end zone thrills Aiea fans. He eludes a big rush and gets off a pass to a wide-open Bautista for a 27-yard gain to Na Alii 40.

8:30: Dayne Evagelista sacks Matsunami for a 7-yard loss.

8:27: Rosario goes off right tackle and busts through the line for a 75-yard touchdown. Ebel adds the extra point. WAIANAE 21, AIEA 0, 5:53 left in first half.

8:23: Aiea gets to the Waianae 25, but can’t get farther and gives up the ball on downs.

8:20: Na Alii have the ball at the 50 after two first downs — on on a Waianae facemask penalty and the other on a Matsunami 9-yard run.

8:14: On the second play of the second quarter, Tacgere gets plenty of blocking, and plenty of time, and airs it out to Skyler Kaleiohi in the front corner of the end zone for a 38-yard touchdown. Ebel kicks the extra point. WAIANAE 14, AIEA 0, 11:04 left in the first half.

SECOND QUARTER

8:10: First quarter ends.

8:08: Ferenisi Lualemana stuffs Rosario for a 3-yard loss and Eteuati Lui for a 2-yard loss. The big defensive plays keep coming.

8:06: Ravin Mokiao-Fuaga tackles Bautista for a 2-yard loss. Once again, Na Alii can’t move and punt. Waianae ball at the 50.

8:00: Waianae’s Skyler Kaleiohi is dropped for a 9-yard loss by Aiea’s Babu Capanang. Treau Tupuola also comes through for Na Alii, stopping Rosario for a 3-yard loss. Waianae punts. Aiea takes over at its 10.

7:59: Aiea goes three and out and punts.

7:54: A tackle for loss by Austin Mogote leads to an Aiea defensive stand. The Seariders punt.

7:51: Rosario goes up the middle for 15 yards to the 45.

7:50: The Waianae defense stiffens and the Seariders take over on downs at their 30.

7:47: Na Alii crosses midfield on Matsunami’s 34-yard pass down the left side to Zachery Kalahiki-Basque.

7:43: Waianae takes over on its 48. On the first play from scrimmage, Justin Tacgere hits Rico Rosario with a 52-yard TD pass down the middle. Tate Ebel kicks the extra point. WAIANAE 7, AIEA 0, 10:45 left in first quarter.

7:40: After one first down, Aiea will punt. One key defensive pay by Waianae: Na Alii’s Fabian Bautista lost six yards when he was met by Kanai Mauga after a catch.

7:36: Aiea starts at its 18. Ty Matsunami is in at QB.


FIRST QUARTER

7:35: Aiea won the varsity coin toss and will receive. Waianae will defend the Makaha end zone.

7:33: Waianae won the JV game over Aiea 46-8.
