GAME NIGHT 9/17: McKinley/Waipahu

Waipahu (3-1, 2-1 OIA D-II) tries to bounce back from its first loss of the season when it plays McKinley (0-3, 0-2) at Aiea. The Tigers haven’t played a game since August 19. Kickoff is scheduled for around 6:30 p.m. Live updates will follow below.

HISTORY: Waipahu leads the series 15-8 in the Prep Bowl and state championship eras. McKinley has won five of the last eight meetings.

8:19: Final score: WAIPAHU 38, McKINLEY 0.


8:18: McKinley gets a first down, but punts.

8:08: Failauga touches the ball on six straight plays for 31 yards, and Seiuli-Sanchez caps the drive with a 2-yard TD run up the middle. The conversion run (after a bad snap) fails.

8:06: Badua can’t handle a snap, the ball falls to the ground and Waipahu’s Devin Roque Souza recovers.

8:00: McKinley has the ball at its own 21 after a Badua pass to Braxton Lane.

7:56: The Tigers slow down the Marauders, who now face fourth down and 12 from the 15. Harris comes in to attempt a 32-yard field goal and it comes up short.

7:55: Messiah Bailey rips off runs of 25 and 14 yards, moving the ball to the McKinley 13.

7:52: Waipahu starts at its own 5 and immediately get some breathing room on Amorozo’s 16-yard completion to Yamashita.

7:51: Badua completes an 8-yard pass to Kepo‘o Amina, but the Tigers can’t move and punt it away.

7:47: McKinley’s Pita Fuamete sacks Amorozo and Waipahu is not able to get out of that hole and lose the ball on downs. McKinley takes over on its own 48.

7:45: McKinley goes for it on fourth down and 8 from the Waipahu 45, but Badua is tackled for a 1-yard loss on a running play.

7:43: Frank Steffany, a linebacker in for the first time at running back, gains 19 yards for a McKinley first down.

7:22: HALFTIME.

7:21: The Marauders’ Brent Micua sacks Badua for a 6-yard loss on the last play before halftime.

7:18: Amorozo hits Contado with a slant pass for an 11-yard touchdown. Harris adds the extra point.

7:17: Isaac Yamashita’s 30-yard catch and run on a pass from Amorozo advances the ball to the McKinley 10.

7:15: Lafo Seiuli-Sanchez, a defensive lineman, comes in at fullback and converts a third down into a first down with a 6-yard run.

7:12: On the next play, a short Badua pass goes to Noah Lowe, but Lowe fumbles and Waipahu’s Dhelton Bandonill recovers.

7:11: McKinley is at midfield after Badua’s 18-yard, over-the-middle connection with Jonah Stephens.

7:08: The Tigers’ Badua gains 9 yards on a third-down play for a first down.

7:05: Facing a third and 17, the Marauders get a 20-yard gain on a screen pass from Amorozo to Failauga. On the next play, Failauga finds space up the middle for a 15-yard touchdown run. Harris’ extra-point try is wide.

6:58: After a loss of yardage on three straight plays, McKinley is punting from its own end zone.

6:54: Kapanui Reyes’ 21-yard reception on a pass from Amorozo covers 21 yards to the Tigers’ 5. Two plays later, Amorozo scores on a 4-yard run. Alfred Failauga’s 2-point run attempt is unsuccesful.

6:49: FIRST QUARTER ENDS.

6:48: Marauders make a third-down conversion on Amorozo’s 13-yard pass to Brysen Tomas Ignacio picks up a first down.

6:42: McKinley starts from its own 10. After Badua pass to Noah Diaz goes for 4 yards, the Tigers face a third and six. Centennial Kulikefu sacks Badua for a 12-yard loss to the McKinley 2. Badua is hurt on the play and is being attended to. Tigers will be punting.

6:38: Two completions from Amorozo to Ezekail Kai Kapanui Reyes brings the ball into McKinley territory, and then Breden Natividad takes it from there, with two 13-yard runs, including a touchdown up the middle. Harris’ kick goes wide right.

6:35: After one first-down run by McKinley’s Elyjah Badua, the Tigers punt again.


6:32: McKinley punts, and on third down, Amorozo throws a pass that is intercepted by the Tigers’ Leonard Phillip.

6:25: Waipahu takes the opening kickoff and runs seven plays for a touchdown. Quarterback Braden Amorozo hits AJ Contado with a 15-yard pass and Alfred Failauga gains 37 yards on four carries to set up Amorozo’s 7-yard scoring pass to Contado. Isaiah Harris kicks the extra point.
