GAME NIGHT 9/7: Kalani/Kaiser

9:21: Game over.

9:13: Rayce Manriki intercepts a pass near the Falcons’ goal lilne. Kalani ball at its own 10.


9:09: Kalani loses ball on downs. Kaiser is driving.

8:57: Backup quarterback Nicholas Sakamoto scores on a 2-yard run to finish the 20-yard drive for Kalani’s first TD. Tabuchi kicks the extra point. KAISER 34, KALANI 10, 9:46 left in fourth quarter.

8:56: Wakea Kanahele sacks the Kaiser punter on the Cougars’ next drive. Kalani has great field position at the Kaiser 20.

8:50: Falcons can’t move and punt it away. The wind is with them now.

8:45: Third quarter ends.

8:44: But the Cougars don’t let that penalty get themselves down. They finish off a 57-yard drive on Perreira’s 14-yard TD pass to Stroede. Halvorsen kicks the extra point. KAISER 34, KALANI 3, 0:13 left in third quarter.

8:38: Brock Perreira comes in at QB for Kaiser and throws a dart to Falls down the right sideline for an apparent 57-yard TD, but the play is called back due to holding.

8:36: Kalani — thanks to a tackle for loss by Kaiser’s Lim’e — can’t move and punt into the wind. 2:54 left in third quarter.

8:31: After a 10-yard sack by Kalani’s Paul Kim, Kalani gets to work. Yoshino has tons of time as he fades back to pass. He waits for Cavin Lim’e to break open down the right sideline and hits him perfectly over the shoulder for a 35-yard touchdown. Halvorsen kicks the extra point. KAISER 27, KALANI 3, 4:19 left in third quarter.

8:29: Kaiser’s Cole Cadinha blocks a punt by Kalani’s Jaden Self and the Cougars take over at the Falcons’ 25.

8:28: The Falcons can’t move and will be punting.

8:26: The drive bogs down. Halvorsen’s 49-yard field-goal attempt is a line drive that misses to the left.

8:23: Kaiser is marching. Six straight Yoshino completions pushes the ball to the Kalani 22.

8:19: The Cougars get it back on a Falls interception. Kaiser ball at its 14.

8:18: Kalani’s Caleb Himuro recovers a Kaiser fumble.

8:13: A Yoshino pass to Stroede goes for 16 ayrds and a first down at the Falcons’ 41.

8:12: Kaiser takes the second-half kickoff. The Cougars start at their 42.

7:54: Second quarter ends.

7:53: One the last play of the half, Lim throws another bomb, but it’s picked off by Kaiser’s Stroede.

7:49: Instead of going conservative running out the halftime clock, Kalani throws three bombs that fall incomplete. But on fourth down, Lim hits Ah Sam with an 11-yard pass to the 50.

7:45: On first down, Yoshino hits Mahiko with a screen pass. Mahiko does the rest, with a stutter-step juke to get to the outside and freedom to finish off a 21-yard TD catch-and-run. Halvorsen’s extra-point kick goes through the uprights and into the bushes past the outside edge of the track on the makai side.

7:45: A 15-yard penalty pushes the ball to the Kalani 21.

7:44: Falls returns the punt 6 yards and Kaiser sets up shop at the 36.

7:43: Three incomplete passes in a row by Lim lead to a Kalani punt into the wind.

7:39: Halvorsen’s 40-yard field goal is good. KAISER 13, KALANI 3, 1:46 left in second quarter.

7:38: A third-down pass by Yoshino falls incomplete. Kaiser sends in the field-goal unit.

7:34: A 15-yard penalty on Kaiser gets the Cougars closer, and then an apparent 15-yard TD pass by Yoshino to Stroede is called back due to a penalty. The Cougars have a second-and-6 situation from the Falcons’ 20. 2:42 left in second quarter.


7:31: Cougars ball at the Kalani 45.

7:30: The Falcons bog down against the wind and will be punting.

7:26: Kaiser can’t get into the end zone on three tries, but Halvorsen comes in to kick a 22-yard field goal. KAISER 10, KALANI 3, 6:04 left in second quarter.

7:24: On second down, Kamakana Mahiko makes a grab of a Yoshino pass for 24 yards to the Kalani 4.

7:22: The Cougars take over at their 49 and get immediate help on a Kalani roughing-the-pass penalty. The infraction moves the ball to the Falcons’ 36.

7:17: After a 15-yard personal-foul penalty pushes the ball to the Kalani 30, Kaiser’s Joseph Chin flies in to tackle Kalani’s Nathaniel Balangitao for a 5-yard loss. Chin then sacks Lim for a 7-yard loss to put an end to the Falcons’ drive. They punt it away.

7:16: The Falcons start at their 15.

7:15: First quarter ends.

7:14: Yoshino is sacked twice by Kalani’s Nicholas Sakamoto. The Cougars’ drive bogs down. They will be punting into the wind.

7:09: Two short Yoshino passes go to Falls for a first down at the 41.

7:08: A Yoshino pass to falls goes for 12 yards and a first down at the 30.

7:07: Cougars take over at their own 18.

7:06: The Falcons can’t move and will be punting with the wind.

7:04: A wind-blown punt goes 6 yards and out of bounds. Kalani ball at its own 40.

7:03: The Cougars go three and out and will be punting.

6:57: Kaiser’s offense stalls. Kevin Tabuchi comes in to try a 43-yard field goal. The attempt hits the cross bar and bounces over it. Good. KAISER 7, KALANI 3, 6:59 left in first quarter.

6:55: Lim scrambles for 15 yards and then Kalani gets another 15 on a Cougars’ personal-foul penalty. First and 10 at the Kaiser 25.

6:54: Lim’s poss to Jake Lee covers 18 yards to the Falcons’ 41.

6:50: On second down from the 1, Easton Yoshino waits for older brother Mason Yoshino to cut across the middle of the end zone. He hits him with a 1-yard toucdhown pass. Kyler Halvorsen kicks the extra point. KAISER 7, KALANI 0, 9:30 left in first quarter.

6:48: Yoshino passes to Jesse Stroede for 27 yards and to Falls for 15. First and goal at the Kalani 3. Falcons call timeout.

6:46: The Cougars’ Dre Falls returns the punt 20 yards to the Kalani 45. Easton Yoshino in at QB for Kaiser.

6:45: Falcons go three and out and will be punting.

6:43: Logan Lim is in at QB for the Falcons.

6:41: Kalani will receive the opening kickoff. Kaiser is defending the makai end zone.
