10:41: After a trade of punts, the Hurricanes have the ball and are driving. Gregorio runs 8 yards for a first down to the Hurricanes’ 34.

10:29: Running clock.

10:26: Two plays later, Adolpho hits Kana Fonoimoana-Vaomu with a 12-yard TD pass. Requilman kicks the extra point. KAHUKU 39, KAPOLEI 0, 4:41 left in the third quarter.

10:24: Matagi rips off a run of 41 yards to the Kapolei 12.

10:22: Tiger Adolpho in at QB for the Red Raiders.

10:19: De’Zhaun Stribling catches passes of 26 and 5 yards to move the ball for Kapolei to the Kahuku 45. But Gregorio’s next throw for Stribling is picked off by the Red Raiders’ Peter John Mataira.

10:16: Tomasi Pasi intercepts a Gregorio pass and returns it 63 yards for a Kahuku touchdown. Requilman kicks the extra point. KAHUKU 32, KAPOLEI 0, 8:44 left in the third quarter.

10:05: Two plays later, Matagi explodes up the middle for a 35-yard touchdown. Requilman kicks the extra point. KAHUKU 25, KAPOLEI 0, 10:05 left in third quarter.

10:03: Kahuku takes the second-half kickoff and starts moving right away. Mariteragi finds Kaonohi Kaniho for a 41-yard gain to the Kapolei 36.

9:41: Two sacks — one by Isaiah Mareko and another by Savusa — allows Kapolei to deny Kahuku more points before halftime.

9:36: The Red Raiders are on the move again. Kaimana Kahalepuna returns the kick 21 yards and then Kade Nakaahiki-Bourgeois runs for 12 on an end-around. Kahuku ball at the Kapolei 26.

9:32: Kahuku linebacker/safety Ace Kaufusi goes nuts with a tackle for loss, a sack and then a blocked Kapolei punt in the end zone for a safety. KAHUKU 18, KAPOLEI 0, 2:32 left in second quarter.

9:26: After the punt the Red Raiders’ punt team downs the ball at the Hurricanes’ 1.

9:25: Savusa sacks Mariteragi for a 5-yard loss. The Red Raiders are punting.

9:23: A bad snap goes over Mariteragi’s head and the Red Raiders lose 18 yards to the 45.

9:21: Kapolei punts it away and Kahuku’s Kaonohi Kaniho returns it 19 yards to the Hurricanes’ 27.

9:19: Two Kapolei quarterbacks who have started this year — Noa Bailey and Mason Gomez — are on the sidelines not suited up. Gomez is using crutches.

9:18: Kana Fonoimoana-Vaomu sacks Gregorio for a 10-yard loss.

9:17: Hurricanes are starting at their 20.


9:15: Mariteragi catches the Kapolei defensive backs sleeping, hitting a wide open Cole Pruett down the left sideline for what turns out to be an 85-yard catch-and-run TD. He was untouched. Requilman kicks the extra point. KAHUKU 16, KAPOLEI 0, 7:25 left in second quarter.

9:12: The Hurricanes don’t get close, due to tackles for loss by Kahuku’s Zion Ah You and Kana Fonoimoana-Vaomu and a sack by Joseph Taufa.

9:10: Kapolei recovers a Red Raiders fumble and take over at the Kahuku 11.

9:06: On third and long, Gregorio just gets a pass off while his feet are wrapped up by Kahuku’s Kana Fonoimoana-Vaomu. The Hurricanes punt.

9:04: First quarter ends, but not before Elijah Latu’s 4-yard tackle for loss on Kapolei running back Jayven Reyes.

9:02: An apparent Matagi 77-yard TD run is called back due to holding. Another holding call keeps Kahuku from moving and the Red Raiders punt it away.

8:58: Kapolei can’t get a first down on its third possession and punts it away. Kahuku takes over on its 31 and will be running its first play on its own half of the field.

8:55: A heavy drizzle is coming down.

8:51: Two plays later, Matagi goes up the middle for a 6-yard touchdown. Adam Requilman kicks the extra point. KAHUKU 9, KAPOLEI 0, 3:49 left in first quarter.

8:48: Kahuku gets the ball back after a Kapolei kickoff. Matagi goes 14 yards off tackle and then Lalio Kaluna runs 17 yards around right end. The Red Raiders have a first down and goal at the 10.

8:44: After a 5-yard illegal procedure penalty, Gregorio is sacked in the end zone for a safety by Kahuku linebacker Alan Talanoa. KAHUKU 2, KAPOLEI o, 5:33 left in first quarter.

8:35: Jason Mariteragi is in at QB for the Red Raiders. They get one first down, but a tackle on fourth down by Kapolei’s Johnson Savusa on Kahuku running back Zealand Matagi is enough to make the Red Raiders give up the ball on downs. Kapolei takes over on its 9.

8:33: Kapolei goes three and out and punts. The punt takes a strong Kahuku bounce. Red Raidres ball at the Kapolei 29.

8:32: Freddie Gregorio is in at QB for the Hurricanes.

8:30: Kapolei takes the kick and will star at its 21.

8:28: Kahuku wins the toss and defers. Kapolei will receive. Kahuku will defend the mauka end zone.

8:26: The officials and captains are heading to midfield. The Kahuku captains are Micah Carvalho, Kamakana Wilkins, Cole Pruett and Lalio Kaluna. The Kapolei captains are Matt Gututala, Kahoolewa Emmsley, Brenan Ewa and De’Zhaun Stribling.

8:25: Kapolei is singing its alma mater. It’s homecoming. The court is in front of the team.

8:23: Kahuku is singing its alma mater.

8:22: The color guard is leaving the field.

8:18: The color guard is on the field, ready for presentation of colors, national anthem and Hawaii Pono’i.

7:51: Kahuku wins the JV game, 29-22. The varsity kickoff will be a late one — about 8:25.


7:43: Hot night in Kapolei. Kahuku is leading the JV game 29-22 with 3:07 left.
