GAME NIGHT 8/19: Castle/Kapolei

No. 5 Kapolei is looking for its first 3-0 start to the season since 2007 when it hosts Castle, which got a win last week over Radford.

NOTES: Kapolei leads the series 4-1. The Hurricanes and Knights have played each other in each of the last three years with Kapolei winning each time. Kapolei pitched three straight shutouts against Castle from 2012-2015. Kapolei has never had a 100-yard rusher against Castle. Darren Hernandez has never lost to Castle on Kapolei’s field.

NOTE: This game ended up as 2-0 forfeit victory by Castle after it was determined Kapolei used an ineligible player.

9:31: Game over.

9:23: Cody Marques in at QB for Kapolei. The Hurricanes punt. 3:31 left.

9:18: Naki, who has run for some tough yardage tonight, does it again for 7 yards (after a 5-yard penalty on Kapolei) for a first down.

9:13: Dylan Naehu sacks Naki and Castle is facing a fourth down and 8 at the 50.

9:07: Kapolei unleashes a secret weapon in 5 foot 11, 285-pound Antoneo Filipo-Brown, who rushes for 32 yards to set up a score. This time, Ahana carries the ball home for a 6-yard rushing touchdown. Kapolei 41, Castle 7, 11:32 left in game.

9:04: Third quarter ends.

9:02: Ahana gets open on the left side for a 40-yard gain on a pass from

8:59: The Knights are punting after three downs again.

8:52: Kalaola scrambles for 14 yards and a first down at the Castle 13. Two plays later, Kalaola finds Ikari Stokes alone in the middle of the end zone for a 13-yard TD. Bantolina kicks the extra point. Kapolei 34, Castle 7, 3:12 left in the third quarter.

8:49: Bronson Buck sacks Kalaola and now the Hurricanes face a fourth down and 12 from the 27.

8:45: Castle goes three and out and punts. Titus Mokiao-Atimalala returns the punt 21 yards to the Castle 43.

8:42: Kapolei picks up one first down, but can’t move farther and punts.

>> Castle’s Naki is 3-for-8 for 14 yards. He also has 20 yards rushing.
>> Kapolei leads the turnover battle 2-0. One of the turnovers went for a touchdown. The other led to a touchdown.
>> The Kapolei defense has held the Castle offense to 32 scrimmage yards.
>> Isaiah Ahana has three catches for 50 yards and two TDs.
>> Tamatoa Mokiao-Atimalala has five catches for 101 yards.
>> Kalaola is 17-for-21 for 225 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions.

8:19: After one Castle play, time runs out in the first half.

8:16: Kapolei fakes a punt at midfield, but Dylan Toilolo gains only 4 yards of the 12 he needed. Castle ball.

8:12: Tamatoa Mokiao-Atimalala returns a punt 25 yards to the Castle 41.

8:11: A sack of Naki by Kapolei’s Kukea Emmsley leads to a Castle punt.

8:05: Five plays later, Kalaola throws a mid-range pass to Ahana and Ahana does the rest for a 35-yard touchdown. Bantolina adds the extra point. Kapolei 27, Castle 7, 4:58 left in the first half.

8:02: Bantolina’s hard onside kick caroms off a Knights defender and Bantolina recovers. Kapolei ball at its 46.

7:58: The Hurricanes march down the field for an eight-play, 80-yard touchdown drive. Isaiah Ahana catches an 8-yard scoring pass from Kalaola. Bantolina kicks the extra point. Kapolei 20, Castle 7, 6:53 to go in the first half.

7:49: Cheyden Costa’s 36-yard field-goal attempt is short and wide right. Kapolei will take over on its 20.

7:46: On a fourth and one for Castle, Kapolei jumps offside to give the Knights a first and 10 at the Hurricanes’ 12.

7:44: First quarter ends.

7:43: Tamatoa Mokiao-Atimalala catches a short pass and is stripped of the ball by Castle’s Ezekiel Rombawa. Rombawa recovers and the Knights take over at the Hurricanes’ 26.

7:35: Dylan Naehu strips the ball from Castle running back Kelling and Treven Maae recovers and runs into the end zone from 8 yards out. Braedon Bantolina makes the extra-point kick. Kapolei 13, Castle 7, 3:26 left in first quarter.

7:29: Kawai Naki is in at quarterback for Castle.

7:25: Kalaola throws a short pass to Tamatoa Mokiao-Atamalala and the sophomore receiver puts the jets on to make it a 51-yard touchdown. The extra point fails. Castle 7, Kapolei 6, 5:38 left in first quarter.

7:19: Smith, the Castle quarterback, keeps it and scores a 1-yard touchdown. Cheyden Costa kicks the extra point. Castle 7, Kapolei 0, 6:28 to go in the first quarter.

7:18: Kapolei quarterback Kaniala Kalaola fumbles a shotgun snap and Castle’s Damien Fauolo recovers at the Hurricanes’ 1.

7:16: Castle can’t move and punts.

7:09: Kapolei completes one pass on its first series and punts. The Knights’ Kainalu Keliikuli-Grace and Kauka Umiamaka combine for a tackle for loss on Kapolei’s Titus Mokiao-Atimalala.

7:05: Castle goes three and out, thanks in part to Bam Amina’s tackle for loss on Castle running back Dylan Kelling.

>> Castle will receive the kickoff and defend the mauka end zone.
>> Kickoff is moments away. The captains are meeting at midfield.
