GAME NIGHT 8/12: No. 1 Saint Louis 61, Baldwin 0

The No. 1 team in the state welcomes Baldwin to Aloha Stadium for a Saturday matinee. It’s a tough matchup for the Bears, who in the four meetings against Saint Louis dating back to 1973 have been outscored 191-13.

5:23 — Oto is sacked for a 15 yard loss then scrambles for 7 on the next play and that’s the ballgame.

5:16 — Oto completes a 12-yard pass to Maluhia Plunkett for Baldwin’s first offensive first down. Oto adds another with a tough 14-yard keeper. He converts on third down with a 10 yard run to move Baldwin into Saint Louis territory for the first time today.

5:06 — Baldwin’s seventh punt closes the third quarter. Adrian Bates-Domingo carries the ball six times in seven plays and becomes the fourth Saint Louis running back to score today with a 1-yard TD run. PAT Good. 8:24.

5:01 — Kamoi Latu returns an interception 38 yards to the Baldwin 1. Tominiko scores on the next play. PAT good. 3:33.

4:57 — After another Baldwin three-and-out, Saint Louis needs jst one play to score again. Kainalu Tumpap bursts up the middle and cuts to the right for a 43-yard touchdown run. PAT good. 5:33

4:49 — Baldwin opens the third quarter with two runs for 4 yards and Noa Purcell breaks up a pass on third down. Bears punt. Maika Bonner takes over at QB for Saint Louis and leads a three-play scoring drive. Tosh Kekahuna-Kalawe catches a pass over the middle, breaks a tackle and breaks away for a 40-yard touchdown. PAT good. 9:39.

4:31— Dominic Tominiko takes over at running back for Saint Louis and rumbles for a 29-yard run to the Baldwin 15. Baldwin stops Tominiko short on third down at the 6 with 3 seconds left. After a timeout, Cordeiro keeps it and is stopped at the 3 to end the half. Cordeiro finishes with half 10-for-17 for 162 yards with a TD.

4:20 — Baldwin picks up its first first down of the game on a roughing-the-passer penalty on Saint Louis on third-and-10. Bears’ next three plays nets a loss of 1 yard and they punt again. Saint Louis not coming after the kick.

4:11 — Cordeiro’s 37 yard completion to Chance Beyer highlights an 8-play drive. Tamarick Hallums carries on six plays, finishing the drive with a 1-yard plunge. PAT good. 6:19.

4:05 — Miscue on a snap leds to a loss of 11 for Baldwin QB Samiu Oto. Saint Louis takes over at its 48 after a punt.

3:59 — Kainalu Tumpap carries the ball five times for 30 yards, Cordeiro caps an eight-play drive with a 4-yard keeper for a Saint Louis touchdown. PAT good to close the first quarter.

3:09 — Baldwin doesn’t get a chance to punt this time. Wily comes down with an interception on third-and-23. Personal foul negates a return. Crusaders take over at the Baldwin 45, 3:09.

3:47 — Baldwin’s second drive goes exactly like the first. Three and out and a blocked punt. This time it’s Gino Quinones on the block and Junior Wily with a 12-yard touchdown return. PAT wide. 19-0, 4:55.

3:41 — Crusaders stuff Baldwin on three runs. Kila Kamakawiwoole blocks the punt, scoops it up at the 2 and scores. PAT good. Just like that Saint Louis up 13-0, 7:40.

3:36 — Saint Louis throws the ball nine times in a 10-play scoring drive to open the game. Chevan Cordeiro goes 5-for-9 for 70 yards and throws a 15-yard touchdown pass to Roman Wilson. PAT off the post. 9:25.


3:27 p.m. — Spectacular afternoon in Halawa. Visiting Bears will be on the Mauka side of Aloha Stadium, Crusaders on the Makai side. Baldwin wins the toss, defers. Saint Louis will receive the opening kickoff.
