GAME NIGHT 10/6: Roosevelt/Waialua

Roosevelt is advancing to the playoffs for the first time since 2007. First though is a chance to close the regular season with a win over Waialua to get over .500. That 2007 season is also the last time the Rough Riders won at least four games.

8:10: Third quarter ends.

8:04: But two plays later, Lacar throws his fifth interception, and fourth that is returned for a TD. This time, Caine Fitiausi-Fung runs it back 98 yards. Fitiausi-Fung misses the extra point. ROOSEVELT 47, WAIALUA 0, 2:40 left in third quarter.

8:01: Lacar is back in at QB and he throws an 18-yard pass to Dicion.

7:59: A 42-yard pass from Dicion to Apau advances the ball to the Roosevelt 30.

7:56: Roosevelt gets the ball back and Mitchell Camacho, on first down, runs off tackle for a 65-yard TD run. The extra-point attempt by Caine Fitiausi-Fung fails. ROOSEVELT 41, WAIALUA 0, 7:06 left in the third quarter.

7:52: Sofakini makes it through the Waialua line to block a punt by Waialua’s Matthan Hatchie, who was standing in his own end zone. The ball bounces out the back of the end zone for a safety. ROOSEVELT 35, WAIALUA 0, 8:05 remaining in the third quarter. It’s a mercy-rule running clock.

7:50: Roosevelt punts on its first possession of the second half.

>> Elwin, 5 carries for 43 yards with a rushing TD and two TDs on interception returns.

>> Rosa 10 carries for 47 yards and a TD

>> Lacar started the game strong, going 7-for-11 with no interceptions, but ended the half 8-for-20 with four interceptions, including three that were returned for TDs.

>> Roosevelt has run 27 offensive plays, with only three passes and no completions.

>> Apau, a freshman, has 5 catches for 52 yards.

>> Sofakini has two interceptions, including one that he ran back for a TD.

7:24: Second quarter ends. Halftime.

7:22: On a fourth-down play, a Dicion 5-yard pass to Apau comes up short of a first down. Roosevelt ball at the Waialua 48.


7:19: Kyler Dicion takes over at quarterback for the Bulldogs. After a short completion, he is sacked for a 5-yard loss by Roosevelt’s Ayson Aurio.

7:18: Kymani Ayonon returns the punt 35 yards for Waialua to its own 45.

7:17: Roosevelt goes three and out and punts.

7:14: A fourth straight Waialua drive ends on Sofakini’s second interception of the game. Rough Riders’ ball on the Bulldogs’ 38.

7:12: A pass interference penalty against Roosevelt helps Waialua get the ball its own 42.

7:06: For a third straight drive, Lacar is picked off. This time, it’s Elwin again. He takes it from the Bulldogs’ 45, cuts around tacklers and bounces off others and makes it all the way for a touchdown. Samuel Baang, the holder on the extra-point try, runs around right end for a 2-pointer. ROOSEVELT 33, Waialua 0. 4:34 left in second quarter.

7:03: On second down, a Lacar pass is intercepted by Tasi Sofakini, who returns it 25 yards for a touchdown. Tully-Sabog adds the extra-point kick. ROOSEVELT 25, WAIALUA 0, 5:49 left in second quarter.

6:57: A Lacar pass tips off the hands of receiver Hunter Nery and is picked off by Roosevelt’s Elwin, who returns it 64 yards for a touchdown. The extra-point kick attempt by Kawai Tully-Sabog is blocked by Waialua’s Dicion. ROOSEVELT 18, WAIALUA 0, 6:09 left in second quarter.

6:55: A 15-yard pass-interference penalty on Roosevelt pushes the ball to the Rough Ridgers’ 37.

6:53: Two short Lacar passes gets the ball to the Waialua 48.

6:50: Three plays later, Rosa scores on a 2-yard run. Once again, the 2-point conversion fails as Waialua’s Damien Segundo tackles Mitchell Camacho short of the goal line. ROOSEVELT 12, WAIALUA 0, 7:44 left in second quarter.

6:48: Rosa gains 10 yards and the Rough Riders get 15 more on a facemask penalty. Ball is at 10.

6:47: Samuel Baang returns a punt 23 yards for Roosevelt, and then he gains 15 yards after taking a long lateral from Kekahuna.

6:45: Waialua punts for the third time.

6:38: Elwin takes an option handoff from Kekahuna, finds a big hole and goes untouched 7 yards into the end zone for a touchdown. Waialua’s Titus Fuiava tackled Rosa short of the goal line on the 2-point attempt. ROOSEVELT 6, WAIALUA 0, 11:53 to go in the second quarter.

SECOND QUARTER

6:37: First quarter ends.

6:35: An 8-yard run by quarterback Shastyn Kekahuna moves the ball to the Waialua 7.

6:33: Roosevelt is driving. A 13-yard run by Elwin gets the ball to the 25.

6:30: Waialua punts for the second time. Roosevelt first down on its own 40.

6:27: Two Lacar passes to Kyler Dicion gets Waialua a first down.

6:24: Roosevelt gets two first downs on the running of Jared Elwin and Isaiah Rosa, but can’t keep it moving and punt.

6:20: Bulldogs get as far as the Roosevelt 41 before punting it away. Rough Riders take over on their 12.

6:17: Justyce Lacar hits Hunter Apau with a 23-yard pass over the middle.


FIRST QUARTER

6:14: Waialua will receive the kickoff. Roosevelt will defend the mauka end zone.
