Jones, Lehl win Hawaii Prep meet

Punahou’s Connor Lehl and St. Andrew Priory’s Jordan Jones won their respective races at Saturday’s cross country meet held at Hawaii Preparatory Academy.

The Big Island meet attracted outer island runners from the ILH, MIL and OIA. Hawaii Prep, which has one of the toughest courses in the state, will host the state meet on Oct. 29.

Lehl outsprinted Kalaheo’s Colby Otero to win the boys 5-kilometer race. Lehl finished in 17 minutes, 59.17 seconds and Otero finished in 17:59.45. Kalaheo’s Avery Torres placed third in 18:17.14.


Iolani placed three boys in the top 10 to top the team standings with 52 points. Punahou was second with 54.


Jones won the girls 5k race in 21:49.29, holding off Seabury Hall’s Ava Shipman (21:52.00) and Punahou’s Mia Schiel (21:53.77). Seabury placed three girls in the top 10 to top the team standings with 33 points. Punahou was second with 36.
