With school winding down, summer camp season is heating up. Camp of Champs hits town June 27-July 1 at HPU’s windward campus. Instructors at that camp include Hall of Honor members David Terao and Teshya Alo in addition to Sunkist Kids National Team coach and two-time NCAA National Champion Chris Pendleton. Lahianaluna girls Iverly Navarro and Alexis Encinas won their weight classes at the Hawaii USA Wrestling Championships at the Lahaina Civic Center over the weekend. Navarro won the 113-pound class while Encinas was tops at 123. Kayla Araki of KS-Hawaii took the 159-pound class. Charles Ariola, Teshya Alo’s wrestling coach, released a statement today thanking everyone for their support and sharing a little bit of sponsorship news. Alo, 18, lost in the semifinals of the U.S. Olympic Trials over the weekend in Iowa City, Iowa. The four-time state champion was the second-youngest athlete in the tournament. Kamehameha state wrestling champion Teshya Alo fell in the semifinals of the U.S. Olympic Trials on Saturday. Alo won her first match by a 12-2 technical fall over Megan Black, she was up 4-0 before the fans settled into their seats and got caught in a awkward situation but overcame it. Alo won her second match 8-5 over Jenna Burkert, but was pushed. Burkert took and early lead but Alo squared it just before the break. Alo appeared to be […]
Kamehameha senior wrestler Teshya Alo has made weight and drawn her first opponent for the U.S. Olympic Trials at Iowa City, Iowa. Alo, who earned her fourth straight state title earlier this year, is the second seed and drew Megan Black as her first opponent. Black is a sophomore at McKendree University and will be wrestling up a weight class. The three-time Fargo All-American is from Iowa so she should have a sizable following.
