Lee, Ane discuss Friday’s No. 1 vs. No. 2 contest

By Nick Abramo on September 25, 2015

The plan was simple: ask for quick thoughts from head coaches Cal Lee and Kale Ane so Hawaii Prep World can let people know what’s on their minds as No. 1 Saint Louis and No. 2 Punahou prepare to engage each other for the first time this season. If trophies were given for brevity, Lee (sorry Kale) would have added another to his case. Lee’s answer by text: “They (the Buffanblu) are undefeated. That says it all.” The answer was […]

Tagovailoa ready to go; Tuliloa’s status uncertain

By Nick Abramo on September 23, 2015

Junior quarterback Tua Tagovailoa missed No. 1 Saint Louis’ last game with a right calf sprain, and the Crusaders (4-0, 2-0 Interscholastic League of Honolulu) are reporting the good news that he will be ready to play in Friday’s showdown of unbeatens against Punahou. “He’s good to go,” Saint Louis head coach Cal Lee texted Hawaii Prep World on Wednesday. Tagovailoa suffered the injury in the Crusaders’ 31-27 victory over Kamehameha on Sept. 12. He sat out the 28-17 win […]

FIRST QUARTER The cushion is big for Keoni-Kordell Makekau on the opening series. The college prospect caught four passes for 58 yards, including a 15-yard TD strike from Tai-John Mizutani. Raiders miss the PAT. IOL 6, STL 0, 8:30. Chevan Cordeiro, in for Tua Tagovailoa, guides the Crusaders on an 11-play, 80-yard drive. Nice and smooth. RB Jimmy Gonsalves scores on an option pitch right for a 3-yard TD. Cordeiro was 3-for-3 for 27 yards in that drive. STL 7, […]

Crusaders’ Tagovailoa to get some rest today

By Nick Abramo on September 18, 2015

Saint Louis junior quarterback Tua Tagovailoa will not start today’s game againt ‘Iolani, head coach Cal Lee told Hawaii Prep World this afternoon. Tagovailoa sprained his right calf in last Saturday’s 31-27 victory over Kamehameha and was day-to-day for most of the week. The move is a precautionary one, Lee said. “Tua says he’s fine and he practiced some,” Lee said. “But we didn’t want him running full speed and planting. He’ll play (against ‘Iolani) if we need him; if […]

Reviewing the hit that ended Yam’s season

By Nick Abramo on September 16, 2015

Kamehameha’s chances to win the Interscholastic League of Honolulu football title took a huge blow Saturday when sophomore quarterback Thomas Yam‘s season ended with a broken collarbone suffered in the fourth quarter against Saint Louis in the league opener for both teams at Aloha Stadium. Yam had just scored his third rushing touchdown of the game to cut Saint Louis’ lead to 31-27 with 4:30 remaining when he was hit by Saint Louis defender Dylan Toilolo after crossing the goal […]
