The Crusaders forced the one-game playoff after snapping Punahou’s 20-game winning streak against ILH teams with a 30-14 win last Saturday. The Saint Louis defense shut out the Buffanblu over […]

Lee: Tagovailoa will start vs. Punahou

By Nick Abramo on October 21, 2015

In Saint Louis’ 30-14 football victory over Punahou last Friday, it was a surprise to see sophomore Chevan Cordeiro as the starting quarterback. He stayed in the game for most of the first quarter until he was replaced by the regular starter, junior Tua Tagovailoa. Crusaders head coach Cal Lee explained recently that Tagovailoa had struggled with a recurring calf injury during that week and missed some practices. “Chev did a good job,” Lee said. “We made a coaches decision […]

Sports to Ponder: Big W’s for ILH teams

By Nick Abramo on October 18, 2015

Head coach Eddie Klaneski‘s hair was wet after Damien wrapped up the Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division II championship with a 28-16 win over Pac-Five on Saturday at Aloha Stadium. It wasn’t raining, so it was most likely a Gatorade bath or some other such celebratory device that comes with winning the school’s first football title in 12 years. Cal Lee‘s hair was wet after No. 2 Saint Louis got past No. 1 Punahou 30-14 in the nightcap at the […]

LIVE BLOG: No. 2 Saint Louis 31, ‘Iolani 7, F

By Billy Hull on October 9, 2015

The No. 2-ranked Saint Louis Crusaders are on a collision course with No. 1 Punahou for a rematch of a double-overtime classic in the first meeting next week to determine whether the Buffanblu win the ILH or the Crusaders force a playoff game. First, the Crusaders have to get past an ‘Iolani team that didn’t back down in a 28-17 loss earlier this season. The Raiders also played the Buffanblu tough in a 35-23 loss last week. Can ‘Iolani play […]

The ILH House of Blues

By Paul Honda on October 9, 2015

Ranked No. 5 statewide. Elite defense. Stellar special teams. Explosive offense even with a third-string QB. The Kamehameha Warriors won’t be part of the state football tournament, not after last night’s 26-23 loss to No. 1 Punahou. Another year, another heartbreak for teams — pick a sport — from the shark tank of ILH athletics. Kamehameha won’t be the last team to sing the blues this fall. Soon enough, perhaps by next week, another ILH — and state championship — […]
