In Saint Louis’ 30-14 football victory over Punahou last Friday, it was a surprise to see sophomore Chevan Cordeiro as the starting quarterback. He stayed in the game for most of the first quarter until he was replaced by the regular starter, junior Tua Tagovailoa.

Crusaders head coach Cal Lee explained recently that Tagovailoa had struggled with a recurring calf injury during that week and missed some practices.

“Chev did a good job,” Lee said. “We made a coaches decision to bring him (Tagovailoa) back. He seemed like he was fine.

“Both are doing good and are ready to go (this week),” said Lee, whose Crusaders play the Buffanblu again Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu championship game at Aloha Stadium. “Tua will start, barring any unforeseen ailment.”
