ON THIS DATE IN 1954: Tiki Vasconcellos and Roosevelt back off

On this date in 1954, Tiki Vasconcellos and Roosevelt scored five touchdowns in the first half and overwhelmed Farrington 38-7. Quarterback Clayton Ching scored two touchdowns before being pulled because of the rout. Vasconcellos pulled his starters after the fourth touchdown, showing some mercy toward the overmatched Governors. Punahou ended up winning the ILH that year, but the Rough Riders took it the following three years.

Tiki Vasconcellos invented the Boom Series offense in years earlier, and on this date in 1960 it was running on all cylinders. Steve Nakamura scored two touchdowns and fell two yards short of a third as Roosevelt crushed Kaimuki 25-0 before a crowd of 10,000 at Honolulu Stadium. The list grows longer for Roosevelt junior Kaeo Akana by the week. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound defensive end is busy with online classes, daily workouts and consistent communication with college football coaches. On Sunday, Nebraska offered Akana a scholarship. On this date in 1974, Junior Doi hit Wayne Jandoc for a 98-yard touchdown pass and Roosevelt beat Kaiser 23-12. Doi threw a bomb from his end zone on third down with 10 seconds left and Jandoc corralled it on the 36 and outran two Cougars to the end zone. The Pac-12 bull rush has arrived for Kaeo Akana. Colorado, then UCLA offered football scholarships to the Roosevelt defensive end on Tuesday. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound junior now has six offers.
