No. 3 Punahou gives up first TD in otherwise masterful performance at No. 8 Kapolei

By Paul Honda on August 24, 2019

The streak has ended for Punahou’s surprisingly effective defensive unit. After going three games without permitting a touchdown, the third-ranked Buffanblu were ahead 24-0 late in the first half at Kapolei when Hurricanes running back Jayven Reyes scored on a 5-yard run. Punahou had shut out Kailua and Farrington, and Kamehameha scored only on a safety and a field goal as the Buffanblu racked up a 3-0 record. Punahou is now 4-0 (3-0 ILH Open) after Saturday night’s 44-13 win […]

By Billy Hull on August 16, 2019

Patience. No. 2 Punahou needed a lot of it Friday against No. 6 Kamehameha and is going to need a lot more of it as it grinds its way through the OIA-ILH Open Division slate. Senior Koa Eldredge then caught two touchdown passes from freshman John-Keawe Sagapolutele in a five-minute span in the […]

Kamehameha and Punahou will walk in the footsteps of their ancestors for the 192nd meeting on the football gridiron between the two schools. The sixth-ranked Warriors will visit the second-ranked Buffanblu at Alexander Field on Friday afternoon for the first time since 1931. The teams, time and venue might be the same but almost everything else would have been almost unimaginable to the overflow crowd that witnessed the spectacle 88 years ago. Kamehameha won that clash, 26-7, behind coach Bill […]

By Paul Honda on August 12, 2019

Hugh Brady’s senior football season is over. His father, Shawn, confirmed that the right knee injury sustained by his son in Friday’s Open Division matchup against Farrington is an ACL tear. “He’s really bummed about it all, but he knows this happens to a lot of guys and you can come back. He’ll be fine,” Shawn Brady said. Hugh Brady was in prime position to guide the No. 2 Punahou Buffanblu. He was 8-for-9 with 74 passing yards at the […]
