CLOSING THE BOOK: McKinley Tigers

By Jerry Campany on October 15, 2018

Pat Silva‘s 2018 McKinley Tigers are living proof that turning a program around doesn’t ever come easy. The Tigers won three games this year, tripling the number they won in the previous four years combined and the most in a season since Joe Cho‘s crew won five in 2013. That includes a scheduled season finale against Kaiser that was canceled because of rain. Silva’s offense and defense would still not register as good or even average, but the Tigers did enough […]

GAME NIGHT 8/31: McKinley/Kaimuki

By Brian McInnis on August 31, 2018

Kaimuki 22, McKinley 0, FINAL ———- That’ll do it. A really ugly game, but Kaimuki moves to 3-0 overall and in OIA Division II. QB Jordan Kanakanui gets McKinley into the red zone with his arm and his legs. McKinley gets up to the 1, then is turned back by the Bulldogs’ line. That was really too bad for the Tigers. Pfeiffer-Kekoa is rewarded with a 7-yard strike from Fa’asau. 2XP is good, with Fa’asoa finding Quynton Brackens after a […]

PREPPING for 2018: McKinley Tigers

By Nick Abramo on July 22, 2018

FIFTH IN A SERIES The lowest of the low eras in McKinley football appears to be over. Under first-year head coach Pat Silva, the team made a huge breakthrough in 2017. The Tigers went 1-7, but got their first victory since the 2013 season. Between 2014 and 2016, McKinley went 0-7, 0-8 and 0-8. It got so bad, the team was forfeiting games due to a lack of turnout. So, it was a happy day last Sept. 15, when the […]

Streak over: McKinley wins first game since 2013

By Nick Abramo on September 16, 2017

Sophomore quarterback Alexandria Buchanan has been getting the headlines the last few weeks for the McKinley Tigers, and she did her job once again Friday night managing the game. But it was a bunch of players around 250 pounds who got it done while the 125-pound girl with the ponytail handed it off with little fanfare as the Tigers broke through for their first win since 2013 to break a 29-game losing streak with a 22-0 road win over Waialua. […]
