By Christian Shimabuku on August 10, 2019

When Kahuku’s Mana Fonoimoana-Vaomu lined up behind center and took the team’s first snaps at quarterback against Kamehameha, it wasn’t a gimmick. Fonoimoana-Vaomu was primarily a safety as a sophomore and junior. He still lined up in the secondary against the Warriors and also held punting responsibilities for the Red Raiders. But quarterback was also on the list of duties for the 5-foot-10, 182-pound senior, who completed his only pass attempt for four yards and rushed eight times for 52 […]

Kahuku’s O-line not pleased despite 21-13 win over No. 6 Kamehameha

By Paul Honda on August 10, 2019

The two veterans of Kahuku’s bulldozing offense line see a lot of work ahead. Moments after a 21-13 win over No. 6 Kamehameha, right tackle Micah Soliai-Howlett and right guard Marcus Lombard were brutally frank with their assessment as a unit in the trenches. “D-minus,” said Soliai-Howlett. “We could have scored on every drive if we didn’t have simple mistakes. GLORY DAYS: Coach Sterling Carvalho and the 2019 Kahuku Red Raiders

By Nick Abramo on July 16, 2019

17TH IN A SERIES This summer, head coaches from all 28 Oahu high school varsity football teams are being asked to recount their football playing days. One coach interviewed for this multi-part series pointed out what he thinks may be the value of this endeavor: “A lot of times, you only hear about coaches when they’re getting released or are having a special season. It’s super hard to have a special season, so this should shed more light on them […]
